Reviewed 12 November 2012

me and my partner got married,we had booked the private function for disco etc, all was fine till people (looked well underage) started comin thru from main bar and started spoutin off at my partner, now wat part of "private am i missing", this happened a few times i might add, the manager did throw them out but only cos we pushed the issue, as for the room we slept in " i was expecting a double bed and a cosy wee room, instead it was 3 single beds, busted kettle (couldnt heat daughters bottles), it was a dindgy cold feeling room and wasnt nice to look at or sit in, let alone spend my first night with my wife! we got offered breakfast as we were leavin too! i would not recommend this place to any1 unless it was legless drunks crashing there or somethin :O mind u at 96 quid! a night i think not! still waitin on a reply, my wife got 1 email back n it was puttin all the blame on us!! n not a word about the room!! p.s there is a lovely little house in the pend alley (right beside chippy) tht is 10 times better for 50 a night! NEVER AGAIN!

This review and the two earlier reviews were written by the same family, firstly they did not have their wedding in the hotel, they actually booked our function room free of charge to have a wedding disco.
At no point were we involved in any of the arrangements or organisation of this function, it was 100% DIY.

For nil charge they had the full use of a room from 9.30am in the morning in order to set up tables etc, they did their own catering and the disco continued until 1am.
We did not provide security or anything else apart from a barperson.

With regard to the bedroom, we were asked for a family room to accommodate 2 adults and a 'toddler' at no point was it stated that this was for the couple who were being married, re the comments regarding the condition of the room, outrageous and untrue, yes the ceiling is bumpy and there are old settlement cracks but these are wallpapered over, the hotel is a coaching inn from the early 1800s and short of pulling down every ceiling in the hotel there is nothing we can do about them.
Disgusting carpets ! totally untrue we we bring in contactors twice a year to professionally clean them, the claim that they checked out early, once again not true, our CCTV recorded them leaving at 10.50am 10 min short of checkout time.
Damaged kettle, yes this is true, unknown to us a previous guest had damaged the kettle, if this had been brought to our attention the kettle would have been replaced immediatley.
We did reply to an email sent by this gentleman's wife and we also informed her that 2 childs coats had been left in room, they are still here uncollected.
Our bedrooms are maybe slightly dated and may not be to everyones taste but they have all been decorated within the past 18 months, they all have flat sceen TVs and WIFI and most importantly they are all spotlessly clean.

we booked a room here for the night we got married as we had our reception at this hotel. the room was a shambles, the kettle had a big hole in it
, there was holes in the wall and the carpet was simply disgusting. we had our wedding night in single beds as there was no double bed in the room. the management were informed we were bringing a baby but there was no way to heat her bottles as the kettle was broken. i have complained twice and i have yet to receive a satisfactory reply. in fact in reply to my first email the hotel tried to turn it on us!!! i still havent received a reply to my 2nd email. for £96 a night i expected much more. i would NEVER stay here again even if it was free.

My son and his partner got married, and had the reception at this hotel. They booked a family room as they needed extra space for a travel cot for a baby. They were allocated a room with 3 SINGLE beds in it. It was never mentioned when booking this room for the bride and groom, and paying £96.00 for the privilege of one nights stay, that there would not be a double bed in it. There was not a single congratulations card, or bunch of flowers, nor a bottle of wine either. My new daughter in law has E-mailed the hotel to complain, and several days have passed, and they have not even bothered to respond.
This hotel could do so much better !!
