I am sorry to hear you experienced some of Scotland’s wet & wintry weather on your weekend break in February and it is always disappointing when expectations are not met. The castle being set on a rock face with open views to the loch is one of its strong selling points, but at the same time is weather dependent, as in heavy wet weather can become a weak point. This historic castle is built in sandstone and after very heavy downpours, a wet sheen can occur on the stone of the loch facing stairwell as water seeps through the porous rock. Likewise, the loch facing single pane sash windows, which cannot be replaced with modern windows due to it being a historic building, can be vulnerable to heavy rain conditions. Having visited the property in the different seasons, I agree it is amazing how quickly the open fires can warm up the rooms and make them feel cosy. I know the owner has made a huge effort to make the castle as comfortable as he can for guests hence its popularity with big groups like yours, who fill it with noise and laughter making the types of holiday experiences – one never forgets!
