“New Orleans Cottage - Absolute Bliss and the dogs are welcome too!”
Reviewed 3 August 2011

We stayed for a week in the New Orleans cottage in August 2010 (altough the date drop down doesn't go back that far? . We were the very first people to stay in the cottage following its extensive renovation, which prior to its refurbishment programme had laid empty for several years. We felt very special to be the first people in decades to experience the wonderful atmosphere and surroundings connected with New Orleans cottage.

Although the external grounds were not quite complete (the only down side - hence we received a slightly discounted rate) we simply loved the cottage, its stunning secluded location right on the coast, the quality furnishings and decor and the homely feeling made it a wonderful relaxing place to get away from the hussle and bustle of city life. Our days were spent walking along the coast line and our evenings were spent staring out to sea totally mesmorised by the sealife and wildlife..

New Orleans cottage is the perfect gettaway, and the best bonus, we could take our dogs. The only downside for us, is the price, however, the location is idyllic so can understand the premium rate. Sadly we cannot afford to make regular trips which would be our desire. We will definitely go back - perhaps in low season.

Highly recommended.

Hi - many thanks for your glowing review! We are so pleased that you enjoyed New Orleans Cottage despite the fact that it was so newly renovated back then. The garden is now completed, a fence to keep dogs in/livestock out, and plenty of spots outside to sit and enjoy the views and general peace & quiet etc. We would obviously welcome you (and your dogs) back (contact me about rates!) so please do get in touch if you fancy a trip our way again, many thanks once again - Kintyre Cottages.

We just has two weeks in the New Orleans cottage south of Campbeltown, booked with Scottish Country Cottages.
It was idillic, remote peaceful with stunning scenery, the cottage was really well renovated a few years ago and was lacking in nothing it was quite pricey. We were blessed with a fortnight of sunshine which was a real bonus. Probably wouldn't rush back as Campbeltown was very ordinary and we didn't eat out once, probaby because we loved sitting watching the wildlife from our own cottage. The other down side was the golf was very expensive two nearby courses were over £70 per round,Dunaverty was less at £27 but you had to dodge the free range cows.
You wont regret booking this one!

We stayed at Archie's in early July. The cottage is tastefully decorated, sympathetically restored with modern touches and presents a really welcoming, cosy atmosphere. The wood burning stove, two comfy sofas and large dining table made for a homely family space. A particular highlight is the location in the heart of a working farm and very close to a beach for rockpooling and seal spotting - our boys had a great time.

We highly recommend staying at the cottages and we will definitely be rebooking.

We stayed at Archie's farmhouse cottage for three days with our two month old baby over the bank holiday and had a wonderful time. The cottage has recently been refurbished and is so lovely , cosy and welcoming. We loved the wood burning stove in the sitting room which was great to come back to at the end of the day. The cottage was so lovely and warm with a continuous supply of hot water. Also the beds are seriously comfortable and it was very clean. The cottage is situated very near the sea with some wonderful coastal walks near by and great for spotting seals and bird life.
We would definitely come back again and recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing break away in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland. Also the owners are very friendly and accommodating to young families.

I took a bit of a chance on booking the cottages, as the only review was a terrible one! However, I contacted Cate and checked out the new website and booked one night while I was in the area for business. She was so helpful and flexible that I went ahead and booked Archies Cottage.

I arrived to find the cottage newly renovated and decorated - some of the fittings are so new they still have the stickers on them! Everything was absolutely spotless and the cottage was a lovely place to be. The kitchen and living room were very well appointed with a lovely wood burning stove in the sofa area and a wonderful table - perfect for family meals together. It was just a shame I was on my own!

I think Kintyre Cottages will do very well under the new management - don't be afraid to book them now!

Room Tip: Email Cate directly - especially last minute!

I had an absolutely wonderful time. Really recommend this to people who enjoy the wilderness but like to have some home comforts.

Contrary to the other review we had a lovely stay at Balimenach. We went for a long weekend with our toddler and another couple and found the house perfectly comfortable and in the most stunning location.
There was plenty of space and the general facilities ie bathrooms and kitchen served us very well throughout our stay. We found the house clean, tidy and warm and had there was lots of hot water for us all which was fantastic.
The positioning of the house made it ideal for children with pebble beaches very close and lots of good walks and Campbeltown is only 5 minutes away which was handy.
I don't normally post reviews but felt that the only other one does not do the house justice at all as we had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
