Kintyre Cottages
Reviewed 28 October 2013

We stayed in Archie's Farmhouse for 2 weeks in July/August 2013 and loved it. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well-equipped for a family of four eating in every night. 2 big bedrooms and 2 big bathrooms - our 3-year-old slept in the second bedroom and our 17-month-old slept in a travel cot (provided) in the downstairs bathroom and was perfectly happy there! A high chair was also provided, as were a selection of children's DVDs, toys and books. Campbeltown is a short drive away, with a Tesco and Somerfield, so easy for self-catering. Beautiful, peaceful location and no midges. The children absolutely loved it and there was so much to keep them occupied and happy - from building sandcastles on the beach to jumping in puddles, dragging fishing nets through rock pools, taking a ferry to another of the local islands etc. The weather was fantastic, generally in the high teens/low twenties with only one full day of rain (apparently this is not unusual for the area.) We had a wonderful time and would go back in a heartbeat - couldn't praise the cottage or the family (who were very helpful and happy for the children to go and look at their piglets and chickens etc) more highly.

I stayed at the Lookout in October 2013, the weather was quite mild for the time of year. The Lookout stands slightly above the lighthouse and its cottages. The accommodation is cosy, charming and functional. The views from the property are stunning. A great addition is the upstairs viewing room complete with sofa and monoscope, for watching gannets dive for their lunch ! I was met on my arrival by Joe the owner, who transferred my belongings to his 4 x 4 and drove us over the tidal causeway to Davaar Island. The place is tranquil, beautiful and isolated. All you need for a laid back week of chillin and walking.I unfortunately had to spend my wedding anniversary alone as my wife had broken her wrist the previous week and stayed behind to have it operated on. Joe and Mary the owners, are a lovely accommodating couple who ensured I was able to keep in contact with the wife in spite of my i-phone failing to connect,. Damm !! Even when it rained the scenery made up for being housebound for the day. There is a lot to see in the local area, Mull of Kintyre, Southend and Campbeltown to name but a few. I will be taking the wife with me on the return trip in 2014.

Room Tip: Best nights sleep i've had in a long time !

We stayed in this cottage for a week in August 2013. The setting of the cottage is absolutely stunning, beautiful views, peaceful and quiet, lots of wildlife. The cottage is comfortable, clean and well equipped. Sitting outside in the evening having a barbecue was the perfect way to relax after daytime walks and trips.

This is an ideal place for a completely relaxed holiday, definitely recommend it, and we would love to go back some day.

We stayed in fisherman's cottage early July of this year. It is very romantic, old fashioned, comfortable, it has lovely owners and amazing walks. A definite repeat for next year. It was so brilliant as a summer break, but I could imagine would be as beautiful in winter as it so romantic being in complete wilderness by the sea.

We have stayed in a range of the Kintyre accomodation over the years, and have always had the most wonderful time. We generally go up in the Summer to this incredibly special part of the world and the views across to the island and back up and around the hills of the mainland are breathtaking.

The accomodation has always been exactly what we wanted. Lots of choice of different charming cottages / houses - all warm, clean and extremely comfortable and a great cosy retreat from the day out (on those rare occasions in Scotland when it rained!)

Anybody looking to get away from it all and enjoy stunning country, nature (lots of fantastic wildlife to see) and coastline with friends in comfort should check it out.

We stayed at this lovely hide away for a week and did not want to leave, we took our little dog Inka so it was just myself (including baby bump), my husband and Inka. It was so peaceful, such a stunning location, the cottage was amazing and very well equiped. An amazing place and perfect for complete relaxation. A visit to the local spa for a lovely massage was perfect. The walks were stunning, helped with wall to wall sunshine. We will be back, without fail.

We stayed in Archie's Farmhouse for a long weekend in June and found it to be absolutely perfect. Really could not fault anything - location is perfect, beautiful views and only a little drive to the town. The drive to the right out of the drive all the way down the windy road to Southend (and the Mull of Kintyre if you are really a brave driver) is truly breathtaking and well worth spending an afternoon on.
The cottage itself is just lovely - it is plenty big enough (we were four adults) with two big, very nice bathrooms, comfy beds and a kitchen with everything you could need and more. Was spotlessly clean too with nice, tasteful furniture throughout.
What we saw of the estate was beautful too - although, be warned, a 'stroll' around Davaar island is not for the faint hearted.
Would also highly recommend Muneroy restaurant/tea room in Southend and Crosshill trekking if you like horse riding - a ride on the beach was real tick on the bucket list.
Will definitely hope to return!
