Second time at the Putechan, this time we paid extra and had a room with a balcony, the weather was very nice and we made full use of it,my only moan is there is nowhere to have a comfortable
Seat to enjoy the Atlantic views when having your after dinner drink.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony

Recently taken over. We arrived after a lengthy drive to discover no booking had been made for us. Waited over two hours whilst manager attempted to locate us other accommodation...unfortunately we could also hear the phone calls made!! Two options were presented separately despite requests for refunds or us to top up value to get accommodation more suitable to our needs. In end management was aggressive and we left with only option on table (an indecipherable map!). Ruined our holiday with no empathy towards distress caused. We have further issues which we will take up with the owner directly. This was meant to be part of our honeymoon but in fact ruined our holiday. Again no empathy was shown to this. We certainly would not consider ever returning to that hotel and are perplexed at managements own perception of the quality of their hotel.

This was a combined gift; engagement and birthday. What a lovely welcome, the hotel was comfortable, food excellent (they baked me a beautiful birthday cake) and the location was fantastic. Thank You L & J, and Micha

Really loved this hotel, nice modern decor in the rooms, lovely comfy huge bed, rooms were quiet, fab power shower, amazing views from our private balcony and the food was absolutely brilliant. I think this might be my favourite hotel! The location is stunning and we were made to feel right at home. Can't wait to visit again!

Room Tip: upgrade for a private balcony, well worth the very small extra charge

This small hotel was excellent value and has very enthusiastic staff.
We enjoyed staying here and the food was very good although I wasn't so keen on some courses being served on a slate!
Our room was at front with balcony and spectacular views.
Easy access to Campbeltown.
Beautiful part of Scotland.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a front facing room. It's well worth the view.

Found this great hotel through an on line offer ... Initially worried that the offer was too good to be true... I need not have been worried. We paid a tiny supplement for a room with a balcony and whilst the weather was not great, we still managed to sit out with a cuppa and enjoy the gorgeous sea views.

Dinner was inclusive on the first night and we did not hesitate to book for the second night... Tasty food and great service. Lovely bar area and should you require one, a fabulous function suite.

The hotel has just recently been taken over by a delightful couple and their friendly but professional manner ensures that guests feel welcome from the minute they arrive.

We will definitely return , next time we will take our dogs as they have some dog friendly bedrooms, they allow dogs in the bar area and there is a private beach only yards from the hotel.

A great find.... Friendly staff.... tasty food...great views...incredible value

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a balcony room if you enjoy sea views

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Putechan Hotel is a former Duke of Argyll’s hunting lodge dating from 1872. It lies on the western edge of Kintyre facing the dramatic Atlantic Ocean with stunning views of the Isles of Islay, Jura and Gigha, together with incredible sunsets. It is surrounded by rugged grounds with an amazing pebble beach, strewn with giant rocks for our customers to enjoy. Take a walk along the beach or perhaps a BBQ while looking out for the dolphins and minke whales. The hotel, now under new ownership, has been extensively refurbished and extended, and can now offer a variety of bedrooms to suit different tastes and pockets; from the bridal suite with roll-top window bath looking out to Jura and Islay and balcony facing the ocean, our 1st floor premier rooms with balconies, ground floor doubles with sea views and a linked disabled room. We can also offer more budget accommodation in our rear facing rooms and ‘bunk rooms’. We also have a fully refurbished and extended Venue catering for a variety of events from weddings (up to 120 seated). Attached to the south wing is the sensational ‘Rock Room’ with one whole wall formed by a massive rock with French doors to the rear and front with stunning views over the ocean. The room seats around twenty and could be used for meetings, smaller intimate weddings, yoga/fitness work-outs, business meetings, or an exhibition hall for local artists. Tell us what event you want to run and we will make sure it is one to remember. The south-facing courtyard is a natural sun-trap and looks over onto the private beach. With practically no light pollution, and clever outdoor lighting systems the Putechan enjoys fantastic stargazing on a cloudless night. ... more   less
