Let's keep this short and sweet. After a 7.5 hour drive overall last Sunday, was a pleasure to arrive at this hotel. Receptionist instantly on our wavelength :o) Room and food lovely - staff were excellent throughout - nothing was too much trouble.

We ate in their restaurant and the food was great. Bar is a little steep on some prices, however it's a great place to stay. Definitely set us up well for the week ahead.

Room Tip: Great views from rooms of the bay. Even on wet/windy days.

Stayed here for a weekend break to golf at Machrihanish and to just chill out. The hotel is a fantastic and much needed addition to the local scene. The rooms are perfect - high quality furnishings, great size, lovely interior design and amazing pictures of Campeltown of old adorn the walls. The service is just spot on - really warm and friendly staff who actually do care. Well done to everyone.

Only criticism is the restaurant. It could never be described as bad - it's just not quite as good as the rest of the hotel experience and not as good as the food at The Old Clubhouse Pub in Machrihanish (same ownership I think).

Overall - highly recommended and puts some of it's big competitors like Gleneages to shame with it's quality and value for money.

This hotel has been refurbished to cater for American and Irish Golf groups. What a transformation! Absolutely wonderful. Hope the rest of Campbeltown takes note.

Just returned from a weekend break. The hotel is first class, and the American owners are showing a good few Scottish owners how it should be done. Great staff, obviously well trained. Refreshing to have local staff also, and they are a credit to themselves and the company. Stayed in a superior room ( 12 ) and it was exquisite- one of the nicest rooms we have stayed in, in Scotland. Very comfortable bed, and everything else was top notch.
Great food and nice bar with nice touches like dedicated (chilled) beer glasses for the array of different draught beers on offer.
We were on a golf/spa deal, but unfortunately the weather did not allow for golf. However Laura and the other Laura at the spa looked after us, and they were excellent.
Also did the whisky distillery tour. Our guide was George, and like the hotel staff, he was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
Hopefully I can get back for some golf sometime soon.

Room Tip: Maybe Higher than first floor- can be a bit noisy from the bar on a Saturday night !

Being a regular visitor to Campeltown many years ago we were delighted to return last weekend to the refurbished Royal Hotel, which is indeed very impressive. The rooms were very comfortable and well decorated. One criticism however is the hotel restaurant where we ate on Saturday night. The meal was overpriced and not of a great quality. Considering all the improvements that have been made to the hotel, they should consider improving the food in the restaurant. I would return to the hotel but would not eat in the restaurant again unless their was an improvement in the food they serve. The restaurant definately lets this otherwise great hotel down

Room Tip: request a view overloooking the harbour

Thank you for your comments. We always appreciate it when people take time to let us know about their guest experiences at The Royal. Our professional culinary team strives to ensure that every dish departing the kitchen is perfect. I am sorry that your particular menu choices did not meet with your approval. On the rare occasions when this proves to be the case, we always do our best to correct the situation for our guests right away. But in reviewing the hotel log for that evening, I did not find any record that there were any negative comments made about the food that night. I wish we could have had the opportunity to address your concerns on the occasion of your visit. It is our policy to do everything possible to make sure our guests leave happy. I hope you will consider visiting the Harbourview again in the future. We will be introducing a new menu in April (one with an emphasis on steaks and seafood) and I am sure that you will find its offerings to be both very delicious and also very good values.

I look forward to your return and to welcoming you again at The Royal Hotel and Harbourview Restaurant.

Sincerely Yours,
Greg Sherwood

After a long drive from Manchester found a warm welcome and pleasant surroundings on my arrival at the Royal. Had a bite to eat and drink in the Black Sheep pub which is linked to the hotel and all was good.
Well worth a stay in nice hotel in a great location
