“Great service and food”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

Since it was re-opened almost two years ago various visiting friends and I have stopped to have lunch at The Royal Hotel. On each occasion we have been most impressed with the service from the mainly young, local staff. We have also greatly appreciated the menu and the food provided. We wish The Royal continued success

This is a wonderful hotel. The whole place has been refurbished with good taste and quality materials. The pride of ownership is apparent from the front door all the way through the building. The rooms are luxurious, the beds extremely comfortable. We had all our evening meals in the bar - the food was supurb. Breakfast in the restaurant was very comprehensive with lots of delicious choices. So very happy with our stay here. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: We had a bay room overlooking the harbour, but I don't think you would get a poor quality choice...

I've stayed in hotels all over the UK and what a gem this was! Looking to stay in Campbeltown for one night, I checked with Tripadvisor and found this at the top of the pile - always a good sign!
Probably a good job I did, as I would have easily passed this 'town center' hotel by, going on 'outward' appearance. But as the title suggests, dont judge a book by its cover.

The recption staff were friendly and polite.
The 'standard' room we had was huge, in good decor and clean. (Room 16) In fact the bathroom alone was probably bigger than the smallest hotel room Ive ever stayed in! .
The bed really was 'King Size' - bigger I think!...and very comfortable.
The Shower cubicle was stand alone ...and the shower worked with some good pressure.
The bar down stairs was clearly well used by locals and the bar staff were a friendly lot.
The Grille restaurant evening meal food was superb...as was the breakfast the following day.

In all, as good a hotel as Ive stayed in and at a very competitive cost.
Highly recommended and defintely on my 'to go back to' list next time in that part of the world.

I recently visited & stayed at this hotel with a group of tour operators. I would like to say that my own experience was one of complete satisfaction with the entire product. The initial welcome, the beautiful room, the excellent food & the convivial bar atmosphere made for a very complete experience. Every request, no matter how big or how small was dealt with efficiently & pleasantly. I would be happy to return there again to repeat the experience as soon as I can. There was some scaffolding outside to deal with damage caused by the very harsh winter in that part of the world. It did not detract from the overall great experience. Thank you to all the staff, Dave the management & of course the wonderful chef, Brian.

Room Tip: The front rooms have a fabulous view of the lovely Campbelltown harbour.

Stopped off at The Royal for a meal late on a Saturday afternoon. Just a bit early for the dinner menu but the lovely staff asked the chef if we could order off the dinner menu anyway. No problem at all. Great choice, well presented and delicious food. Lovely surroundings with attentive staff. Would definitely go back.

Stayed at the Royal for a weekend break, had a lovely room facing the harbour. Food in the hotel is very good both in the restaurant and in the pub. Scottish breakfast is amazing! The weather was typically Scottish, very wet but then beautiful sunshine when we left Monday morning which was a great boost to the lovely scenery on the way home.

Rooms are well appointed with everything you need. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a short stay but not much to do in the area.

Room Tip: ask for room facing harbour

Stayed at the Royal Hotel for two nights last weekend. It was fantastic.
The room was a great size, with a really comfy bed. The shower was really powerful and plenty of hot water.
The cooked breakfast was tasty and very filling.
The bar was reasonably priced and the staff friendly and very good at their jobs. There were a couple of locals in who were drunk and the guys refused to serve them any more drinks, knowing they had caused problems previously. Well done guys!
Well worth a return visit.
