“Very good food, poor decor”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2012

I stayed 2 nights in Campbeltown at a B&B. On both nights I ate here. I was on a cycling tour, so a good hearty meal was high on my list of priorities. The food was very good, hence the return visit. The decor was not so nice, so not the place for a romantic meal.

I had to spend a couple of nights in Campbeltown and stayed at the Argyll Arms Hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. Unfortunately my room was on the second floor, but there isn't have a lift! The room was clean, warm and comfortable with a good size bathroom with shower but nowhere to hang a towel or bathrobe. The breakfast was filling and very tasty. On my second night I had a meal in the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend the hotel as it is reasonably priced, clean, good food and everyone is very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: If you want exercise go for the second floor

My partner and I had a few issues with this hotel. First, there is the constant sound of running water in the rooms from the heating pipes. It isn't that noticeable when you have the tv on, but if you are wanting some quiet time or are a light sleeper you will defininetly hear the running water sound. Second, there were no locks on the windows. Third, the room could do with some maintenance - the old world decor was nice and a little bit different but the power socket was almost falling out of the wall and the towel rack also fell out of the wall. The shower head could do with replacing as it may have had mould on it. I would have also liked if there was a welcome sheet in the room outlining what time breakfast and dinner was, what time checkout was and other tips on the area, just something to make us feel a little more welcome. Otherwise breakfast was ok, beds were comfortable and wifi was available in the lobby (but not strong enough to use in the rooms or dining areas). All in all I don't think this hotel represented good value for me and I would stay in a B and B next time.

We booked this hotel on the various recommendations made by persons who had stayed there and weren't disappointed. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights on 24 and 25 February and paid £130 B&B which I thought was excellent value for money. The hotel is quite old but very clean and the staff are very helpful. Valentina is the wife of the owner and she is just lovely. By the time we left the hotel, we felt that she was a very good friend of ours and that's something you don't often get in hotels. The staff were very friendly and the food excellent (nothing fancy but excellent). On Sunday morning, we arrived at the dining room at 0830 hrs which was too early as it didn't open until 0900 hrs but the staff came to the door and opened up for us. She apologised that we may have needed to wait about 10 minutes for tea but we were the ones who apologised for being so early. Nothing was any trouble to the staff here - they really did 'push the boat out'. The room we had was quite "old world" but was very clean indeed and looked as if it had just been decorated and the bed was so comfortable. The toilet was very modern with a lovely big shower - again spotless and there were tea and coffee making facilities (but ladies - no hair dryer!). The hotel has a car park at the rear of the hotel and is slap bang in the town centre so you don't have to walk very far for anything although there's not much to see at this time of year in Campbeltown but all in all we had an enjoyable and restful weekend.

Room Tip: Our room No 2 faced the back of the hotel which was quiet.

i had to deliver a lorry load of materials to cambeltown, my girlfriend came with me on the long drive from belfast, we booked in to the Argyll Arms around 7pm, we wanted to go out round the town for an indian meal & try a few pubs so we never seen round the hotel much as we just came back late and went to our room, however if theres one thing we really appreciated and made us feel welcome was the brief booking in period with the girls at the reception, we paid for a room and she gave me the keys, then she called me back and says here there's the keys of the deluxe room, it was great! massive old fashioned room with old funiture and a lovely big bathroom with sunken bath, twin sinks etc for the price of a normal room :), THANKS, Paul, Belfast

Room Tip: sorry i cant comment much as we only more or less used it to get our heads down but thanks for the d...
