We have visited The George several times - and have almost always really enjoyed our stay. This time was no exception - beautiful room, excellent food and a good menu to choose from. The only thing which marred this visit a little was a lack of care and attention from what I assumed was a duty manager - a slightly arrogant scots guy who seemed to be in charge. We ate in the hotel on our first night there but went to the famous Loch Fyne Restaurant on the second, returning to the hotel for drinks afterwards. We were not allowed to sit in the large bar area - told the tables there were reserved for diners. The chap advised us there as room in the side bar and indicated left - we couldn't find it!! I went back to ask him if he'd show us where he he meant - but was shrugged off with another "down there to your left". I do understand the need to reserve tables for diners - but the restaurant itself was empty!!!! They were obviously encouraging people to eat in the bar area - but that left little space for those us who wanted sit for a drink. I feel residents should be catered for with a residents lounge or a guaranteed seat. As it was we went back to our room and opened a bottle of the malt we'd bought at the fabulous Loch Fyne Whisky shop. We didn't spend another penny in the hotel - which is a shame, because we do love the place. This is how one member of staff can actually spoil a reputation and a customer's experience!
