A main attraction of the village is Inverary Jail, a step back in time of the penal system of yesteryear. A very very enjoyable trip (made better for us with the fantastic weather we had), take your time and digest the whole experience.

I love places like this as I'm interested in gruesome history but even my boyfriend who hates museums had a good time. There was a good combination of interactive exhibits and information boards which were informative and well paced. The new and old jails were well maintained and I loved reading the records of the people held prisoner there and the different sentences. There are many photo opportunities and you can try things out like prison beds and thumbscrews.
We didn't meet many people dressed up which might have been a shame if we were with children who like that kind of thing, but for some reason actors and people in costume make me uncomfortable so I was pretty pleased not to have to talk to them!
Pretty good for all ages, it took us about 2 1/2 hours to go all the way around so was worth the money. You can get flyers for 20% off entry in the tourist information down the road and they do student concession.

Interesting place to visit for both adults and kids. One of the guards dressed in authentic clothes gave a great description of what life was like for the prisoners.

This museum was a delightful find, tucked behind the waterfront. After paying (get flyers from tourist information for 20% off) you are greeted with some basic information boards, but after this it gets better and better with the old court rooms and particularly the old and new jails maintained to a high degree. There are items you can use and the occasional actor wandering around supplying you with stories and information.

Well worth an afternoon

My wife and I paid £9.50 each and was greeted by a bunch of dummies in the courtroom bellowing out tape recordings, then we went down stairs and the 'warden, the matron and the prisoner were all chatting among themselfs,we went in to the old jail to have to read about old time prisinors, not be giving any stories and the cow outside you meet is just a dummie, complete waist of money.
