A visit to this superb attraction provides a fantastic, realistic insight into punishments and harsh treatment of criminals at this time in history.
It is informative and entertaining but I suppose it can be a bit scary to children of a sensitive nature.

We were in Inverary for the day and felt duty bound to visit the jail.

It covers quite a large area and lots of stairs ( quite narrow and steep) - worth keeping in mind if you have issues with balance etc.

Really enjoyed the courtroom and the stories on the walls. Staff are dressed in period costume and help history 'come to life' with their enthusiasm. Seeing the exercise yard was an eye opener but the biggest difference was the last cell which is a replica of a modern one - the comparisons between what prisoners had before compared to now, well it really made you think!

The only thing I would say is by the end of the visit, I started to feel a bit like déjà as some stories seemed to be repeated, but it was definitely worth a visit

I visited here while on a Lochs and Glens trip so got a bit of discount on the admission fee. There is so much to look at and read and I took lots of photos. I also got one of myself behind bars, and had it put on a fridge magnet as well which was great fun. With the gift shop I ended up spending more money than I meant to but it was money well spent! The courtroom was really interesting as
was everything, and I would say you need to allow at least two hours, the time just went so quickly. If you want to fill in an afternoon, especially if its raining, this is the ideal place, I was very impressed!

Personnally I thin this attraction is oversold. Certainly much of the information was about why people were sentenced rather than detailing their life in the prison through the ages.

This place is well worth a visit. Complete with courtroom with recorded trials going on and 'pretend' Judge, Lawyers, Jury, Prisoners - you can sit and listen to several trials, very interesting. Plenty of 'Cells' to explore in the jail along with great info on what life was like there for the prisoners, staff, warden. Plenty of photos, jail records, descriptions of changes made over the years - we spent about 2 hours here to see everything - definitely recommend! And 10 pounds is a fair price for entry, considering what you get out of it.
