“Brilliant position, and excellent hosts”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

The guest house is in a brilliant position siting up the hill looking down across the harbour. The rooms were large, and modern and had everything we needed. The hosts were very welcoming and keen to help us, they even got us a reservation at a really lovely fish restaurant on one of the quays. I would definitely suggest this place to anyone, so long as they are able to tackle the hill, if they were to walk rather than drive down into town.

Stayed here for 1 night with our daughter and her husband. We all found the place a delight, good rooms, wonderful views and a great breakfast. Highly recommended. Very pleasant and helpful owners we will return when we are in this lovely area again.

This was our 5th trip to the Oban area, and the 5th place we have stayed. All of these are 4 or 5 star B&B's. Well we have found what we were looking for. Our next time in Oban this will be our choice. Everything is near perfect, the room, the bed, the breakfast, the host, the house it's self.

Room Tip: Room 4 has a million dollar (600,000 pound) view

I just returned from an eight-day visit to Scotland with my husband and mother. We spent four nights in Edinburgh and three in the Highlands, and Dunheanish was my favorite lodging of the entire trip. The location is beautiful and dramatic, offering lovely views of the sea and town. It's very quiet. The house is beautiful and the interior is just flawless. I loved our room (cannot remember the number, but I can't imagine there's a poor room in the house). It was a double room on the second floor on the front of the house that offered a nice view of the sea; William apologized because we did not have a better view, but that was not at all necessary! The furnishings in the rooms are all very nice antique pieces, and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is spotlessly clean with a great shower.

The breakfast room is a little more formal than some other places we stayed, but quite friendly and welcoming -- definitely the kind of place where people at different tables felt free to speak to each other about their trips and to offer advice about things to see and do. William had reserved for us the table closest to the front window so we could enjoy the view.

We left a bit early and quickly because we were going to catch the ferry to Mull and Iona (sadly all the ferries were subsequently canceled that day due to high winds and storms so we did not get to go -- something to look forward to next time!) but still William came out to the car to say goodbye and wish us the best for the rest of our trip.

Although the house is up on a hill there's a shortcut down a small street right into town: as William said, it's a five minute walk down and longer coming back up, but even the walk up is not difficult.

I will absolutely return to Dunheanish and plan to stay longer next time.

Loved our return to Dunheanish with the friendly charming hosts of William & Linda
We had the wonderful Room 4 this time with its magnificent views over Oban & Kerrera towards Mull & beyond. The room has a super bay window with table & two chairs. It is a huge room with a very comfy bed and very peaceful so sleep was sound. Though we have stayed in Room 1 & Room 5 and they were super too so I think every room will be nice if facing the sea. William cooks a great cooked breakfast and the whole house is a credit to them as spotless. It does sit high above the town so a climb back up the hill and parking is a bit tight. Do pre book your evening meal in Oban during the summer as it is a very busy port and has some super seafood restaurants.
Look forward to our return visit.

Room Tip: Room 4 is wonderful but Rooms 1 & 5 are also very nice

The house sits with a commanding view of the Oban harbor! The bay windows in our room had a million $ view! Our hosts were extremely attentive, helpful and friendly. You feel like a guest in their own home. The house had loads of character and good amenities. The bathroom in our room was cozy but everything worked well. The breakfast was good with William catering to our every need. There is parking that is accessed from the side street (turn left as you pass with the house on your left or turn right if approaching with the house on your right). It is an easy walk down to the center of town. Be sure to make dinner reservations during high season as at midday we had to call 4 or 5 places before we could find a table for the evening.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the bay window on the 2nd floor!
