i was staying here on business and found the family run hotel very comfortable and the food fantastic the servings are plenty at the attached creel restaurant.
The location is good, well away from the main road but close enough to the town center and only a short walk from the ferry terminal.
i was here on business and needed to be out before the breakfast serving times May who is one of the owners got up and made me a fab cooked breakfast with an abundance of fresh ground coffee and cereal which i was very grateful for as kept me going well into the afternoon.
if you needed anything they are more than happy to help.
The rooms were comfortable and warm with en-suite and a very powerful and warm shower.
The windows are old wooden sash ones and let in a bit of outside noise but with the age of the building it is to be expected, the family have been running the hotel for just a year and they are making changes to it bit by bit but i found it quite homely and comfy.
I had room 1 a single room above the bar which meant i heard a chatter from the bar "not to loud though".
the rooms consist of 2 floors.

Floor 1 - Room 1(single), Room 2 (double)
Floor 2 - Room 5(single), Room 6 (double/single bed), Room 7 (family room double bed and bunk beds).

The hotel/bar staff were very helpful and friendly.

i would certainly use it again. :) thanks may and family for taking care of me.

Room Tip: if you don't like noise from bar area ask for rooms 5,6,7 or 8. Rooms 5 and 8 are singles Rooms...

Arrived in Oban by motorbike for a quick overnight stay as I live in the islands. Made very welcome from the start and offered secure overnight storage for the bike. Great food, friendly staff and regulars in the bar. Slept very well with no loud music or traffic noise. Lovely hot shower and great breakfast. What more do you want!? Would definitely return - genuine west coast hospitality. Phil Kitching

We always try to have a break where we can also enjoy a boat trip and this fitted the bill perfectly. Only a couple of minutes walk from the bus, ferry, and rail terminals. No car park at the hotel itself but just across the road from a large public car park. Central location set back from the waterfront and didn't look too great from the outside but the room was fine and the food was excellent. Seafood chowder was virtually a main course in itself, but when followed up by the steak pie left us fit to burst! Breakfast on both days was also excellent with a great varied selection. On our second day we took the ferry to Mull and on to Tobermory then back to Oban. Ate out at one of the so-called "classier" places in the evening but wished we'd eaten in the Woodside again. The company and staff were great, ok maybe it could do with being spruced up a bit, but for the money paid it was a good experience apart from a very loud base beat from the disco. Ear plugs solved that problem on the second night and it would certainly not stop us using the Woodside again when visiting the Oban area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the beat of the disco, or use earplugs.

After attending a funeral in Oban, I went to the Creel for bar meal. The menu is typically a bar menu with some nice seafood options. As it was a very wet and cold day I ordered the steak pie. Wow, what a pleasant surprise, probably the best steak pie that I have had, ever. A large portion of great food. Thank you staff too for being kind and happy.

If you want great food with no fuss and very very well priced then this is a great place to try.

This hotel is looking quite old. The room seemd to have undergone some building works which were not yet finished. Or should it have been some damage by water? The bed was ok and the room was clean, but the overall impression was not pleasant. The window did not stay opened and some glass in the window was broken and hardly repaired.

The staff was nice, especially the lady caring for breakfast and the hotel. Furthermore the price was a great deal and you are some steps from both the harbour, the station and the town centre.

I have stayed in the hotel many times and have never had any mayor problems. The only issue we had was the code for the door we were told when we asked that the code was in our room. it was not in the room and when we asked at the bar again she was not best pleased that we were asking for the code again. she did after the yhird time asking write it down for us. apart from that i would not stay anywhere else. would say to anyone its a nice place to stay for a couple of nights.

I booked this hotel after seeing pictures of the rooms on the internet. The rooms do indeed look quite pleasant, though I had to swallow twice when I first saw the exterior of the building; it looks like an old run down pub. We were given a spacious room on the second floor. The first thing we noticed was that the window wouldn’t open. Fortunately the bathroom window did open, though it required a block placed underneath to stay open. The beds seem quite old and mine had some sort of beam stuck in it crossways to support the mattress. Not a pleasant way to sleep. The disco music from the pub in the evening didn’t help either. Finally, the shower is so minimal you cannot even turn around in it, and it gets especially tight while you are trying to extricate yourself from the shower cabin.
In the morning we were leaving on the ferry to Barra and since breakfast only opened at 7 we had a very rushed meal before dashing off to the ferry terminal. The dark pub room is not the nicest of places to start the morning.
