“Don't be disillusioned by the outside!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2013

Came to this hotel for the September weekend break. Husband didn't like the look as we parked outside, but once we got to room, we could see that it was a lot better inside than out. Had dinner at the Creel on the Friday, the steak dinner for 2 plus bottle of wine for £19.99 was brilliant, and cooked to our taste, enjoyed so much that the manager let us have it again on the Saturday too. Staff were really nice and friendly. Breakfast was a huge choice from cereal, pastries to full Scottish breakfasts. Would recommend this hotel to anyone, as it's very central, comfortable beds for a good nights sleep, and food lovely. Will definitely go back there to stay, if we are ever back in Oban. Can't fault this hotel, Allan & Mary, you have done such a good job in the short time that you have had the hotel!!

Nice clean hotel. Very friendly owners couldn't be more helpful and accomodating . Well situated for the town. Nice meals served in new addition, The Creel Bar. Small public bar but seemed to be frequented with locals - which is always a good sign

Room Tip: Quite steep stairs for the elderly

We loved our 5 night stay in this family run hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt we were treated like friends. Family and staff were always happy to talk and to advise on places to see as well as interested to hear how your day out had been. The food was excellent and the locals in the bar were also welcoming and happy to give advice. Previous reviews have not always been too kind about the rooms but ours was lovely. The whole place is being made over a bit at a time - 60 minute makeovers don't happen in real life! I think they are doing a great job and hope we will be able to return one day. We've been in snobby hotels where no one talks to you, we've been in impersonal hotels, where no one talks to you. We much preferred this one, clean friendly and with good food, what more could one want? This may have been our favourite hotel ever, because of the fantastic treatment we received! Good luck for the future to Mary, Alan and Nicola. Thanks for having us. Margaret and Tom.

We had booked this hotel for one night and it is in a perfect location right in the centre of the town (if that's what you want). From the outside is looks very run down but inside it is lovely. The room we had was a large family room but we only asked for a double. In the room was a tea tray, freeview TV and free Wi-Fi. The bathroom was large and clean and all towels and bed linen were clean. Breakfast had plenty of choices but we opted for a cooked breakfast with tea and toast and it was very nice. There was a buffet style selection of cold meats, pastry's and cereals if you would like that first. Overall a nice, clean hotel but I'm sure people will just walk right by, judging it from the outside.

As many reviewers have already said, the staff here are lovely and Mary who runs the place is very friendly and hands on. We were let down though by the quality of the accommodation, particularly the bedroom. Maybe we felt this more acutely as we paid the same price here for a room as we paid in other hotels in scotland that were of a much higher standard. We had a family room which consists of a double bed and bunk beds for the kids. As the room is so small and i imagine the place is not really up for accommodating families we were very cramped and we had no wardrobe at all. None of the lamps were working in the room and the decor was extremely old fashioned and musty.
We had an amazing chilli dish with nachos down in the bar that night and the band playing were really entertaining.
After driving a bit further the following day and finding an amazing hotel on a lake with beautiful bedrooms for the same price we wouldn't choose this hotel again.

This is a great B&B with a couple of minor niggles.

The positives are that it's very convenient in the town centre and for the ferry. The owner/staff are very friendly and helpful without being overbearing.

The breakfast is superb, with an amazing choice of a full English/Scottish and cereals etc. I know that that sounds like a lot of places, but the choice here was exceptional.

The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable.

The negatives are very minor. There were cracked tiles in the bathroom, and the upper floors had a general 'tired' feel about them. The window in my room knocked in the wind too but that was sorted with a bit of toilet paper wadding. I was in a single room and I suspect that the owners are improving the double rooms in advance of the single rooms. But they are going in the right direction.

Basically, it was a comfortable, clean B&B, and I would gladly stay here again.

It's close to a 4 rating, so the breakfast and staff bump it up from a 3 rating to a well deserved 4.

Room Tip: Single rooms might need a bit more work, but they are very comfortable and clean.

Stayed here last week for a week. A couple of minutes from the front this hotel was great value for money and a great base for seeing the islands and for some stunning walks. The staff were friendly and the owner Mary who served breakfast every morning was great. I'm vegetarian and she said if there was anything different I'd like for breakfast she'd go & get it for me. She didn't need to though as there was plenty of choice anyway. The room & bed was comfortable & clean with tea & coffee making facilities. What more could you want! I'd definitely stay here again.
