This is an older and somewhat funky place, but in a good way. They accomodated our large group, and we had a great lounge area to gather and talk about our day after hours. Great breakfast food and the service wonderful. The ensuite showers were really small but I was glad to have one. The beds provided good sleeping. If you are looking for new or updated, this is not the place, but it is a fine place.

I loved the atmosphere here. The persons in charge are kind and helpful. The room was clean, no noise, so calm. Wifi was in the diningroom space where locals had their dinner. Breakfast was good and in a nice room.

It appeared that this place was once an old hotel motel and still had a few locals come over at night for a few drinks with the manager/barman. The manager was very friendly and nice. Gave good advice and is a bit of a character.
The rooms are a bit old but neat & clean. The shower didnt work very well though & needs some getting used to. The building appears to be undergoing some restoration (when we were there).
A good view is held from the front rooms and the breakfast room. Breakfast was extensive and we were pretty full afterwards which is what you want whilst traveling (cus we miss lunches).
It is a quick stroll down the hill to the main shopping area and harbour. Apparently no laundry in town so we were recommended to ask the Backpackers with the blue sign. He was reluctant at first since we didnt stay ther but eventually caved in. We had top pay of course but as I recall, was not too much. It was all washed, dried and folded for pickup after dinner.
There is plenty of car parking at the hotel but the entrance comes up pretty fast when driving in from the North so keep an eye open for it.
Oban itself is such a pretty little Scottish harbour town. Lots of photos! Hopefully if you are there, it is a clear day. We saw other photos people had taken & appears to get pretty foggy. We were there in Sept & were sunny days albeit a bit cold & windy.
Take the time to drive all around the foreshore, visit the Oban Distillery and also the castle just North of the town (Dunstaffnage Castle).
We would definitely stay here again and to visit Oban.

Room Tip: get one at the front upstairs since they have a view

While the hotel is small, only about 18 rooms or so it has a great view of the bay and the sound of Kerrera. You need to walk a bit to get into what most call the center of town but that's good too. Once there you can find anything you want..shops, eateries, places and things to see. How about a ferry to an Island.
This hotel is cute. It is clean, had updated facilities......Great showers!!. The beds and good and the room sizes for Europe are large. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Forget the chain hotels and go local .

Room Tip: Try any room and you will be happy there

Impressive location on a hill overlooking Oban harbour. A good 5 minute walk into town and an easy 10 minute walk back, but use the back roads. We stayed there for 5 nights and loved every minute. While the hotel could use some updating the rooms we had were bright and clean with great views. The staff too were very helpful and responded quickly to your requests. If you enjoy a hearty Scottish breakfast then you wont be disappointed here! Wi-Fi may not be available in some of the rooms but coverage was good in the lounge. A good value for money hotel and In our view Kings Knoll is "the place to be seen".

Room Tip: Book early and request the "harbour view room"

We went to Oban for one night on the spur of the moment and this was one of the few hotels with rooms on a Saturday night.
It is in a reasonable location but on a hill - only 10 minutes walk to the town though so not too bad.
The room was very small but clean.
The bar area was nice although we didn't use it.
The breakfast was not good, the fried food appeared to have been deep fried and was swimming in fat. Luckily I had poached eggs which were fine.
All in all an ok hotel for one night but wouldn't stay for a longer period unless I had a bigger room.

Room Tip: I don't know about the rooms in the main part but in the extension they appear to be small. We...

A major accident on the road to Oban stopped all traffic in and out of town for 7 1/2 hours. Being stuck on the road just two miles from the hotel was frustrating. We had made reservations at one of Oban's fine seafood restaurants, but when it was apparent that we were not going to make it for dinner, we asked Tom, the proprietor of King's Knoll Hotel, to call the restaurant and explain why we would not be there, which he did. We finally arrived at the hotel late at night, weary and hungry. Another couple who had also been held up in traffic arrived right after us. Although the kitchen had been closed, Tom offered to open it up specifically for us and prepared a most welcome supper for us. His help and graciousness were deeply appreciated by both couples. We were staying for just one night as we were catching an early ferry the next day. While our room was a bit worn, it provided all we needed, and in truth, being a bit worn was part of the charm of this hotel. Breakfast the next morning was first-rate served by a very friendly staff. But it was Tom, himself, who was the real hero of our stay.

Room Tip: The parking lot is small and spaces are tight. Arrive early to claim your space.
