Dungallan Country House

We booked the Dungallan Country House at the end of our trip through the Crinan Canal. We booked on the assumption this was a hotel - especially with the price that was being charged. This is a guest house. We were shown to our room which was so small you couldn't swing a cat in it. The television was on the wall as there was nowhere else for it to go. We had a shower room with an electric shower which you had to run around in to get wet !! There were lovely views of the bay and the sheets and towels were of very good quality but for £189 a night we felt it was quite extortionate. We asked for a glass of chardonnay but they didn't seem to stock this and were offered the house wine which was £4 for a very small glass and was not at all nice.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Dungallan House. I was very warmly welcomed and given all of the information I could possibly need, a dinner reservation made for me at an excellent seafood restaurant 2 minutes away in town. My room had beautiful views across to the Isle of Kerrara and down to Oban township. Everything was so cosy and beautifully decorated. It seemed like all of the details had been thought of. An excellent breakfast was served in the dining room overlooking the water. Mike and Marion were excellent hosts. I would recommend Dungallan House to anyone - its position just out of town but only 2 mins drive away suited me perfectly,

Though I had read glowing reviews of Dungallan Country House, we were not greeted warmly be either Mike or Marion. We arrived at our destination and even though we had telephoned saying we would be there shortly (the road had been resurfaced and we couldn't find our way), no one greeted us upon our arrival and we had to call several times for our hosts. We were three women and only when we asked for help, did Mike offer to help us upstairs with our bags. We were told that breakfast would be at 8:30am. No ifs, ands or buts. We mentioned we had a ferry at 9:20 and would like to eat a bit earlier if possible.
We were told in no uncertain terms that 8:30 was plenty of time. When we asked very cordially if 8:15 am could be arranged we were told "No, 8:30am is sufficient.
At every other bed and breakfast, we were ASKED what time we would like breakfast.
Usually, at a b&b, the host is accommodating.
To be fair, the place was beautiful, the rooms lovely and the breakfast was delicious, but our encounter upon arrival and extreme rigidness left a bad taste in our mouths.

A comfortable guest house with lovely gardens and views. We had a nice sized downstairs room. Appreciated the generous cooked breakfast. A nice lounge area with included wifi and superb choice of whisky. The gardens were in full bloom.

A warm welcome from Marion, Mike and Zeppi their huge puppy. This lovely old house is perched majestically above the Oban waterfront with fantastic views from the award winning garden and beautifully decorated room. The most comfortable bed we've slept in for years and ever so peaceful. Mind you, the malt whisky (from 100 in the bar) may have helped too. Not cheap but great value - felt like we were in a country house of our own. Highly recommended.

Stumbled upon this place after having dinner at a local eatery. Went inside the whiskey bar for some after dinner drinks and were greeted by the owners and welcomed in. Amazing sunset views and whiskey selection. Michael clearly has a knowledge of whiskey!! The house is amazing and after we found out the price of the rooms, I wished we had stayed here all night instead of going back to our hotel with much poorer accommodations.
