“A room with a view”
Reviewed 30 August 2014

This was my first visit to Oban and having walked around the 'bay' this is the place with the best view. Indeed I spent ages either in the car park or leaning out of the window (of Room no 6) with my camera. Arrival, at the appropriate time no problem. Room fine particularly the large bath., Breakfast great. Only negative was the price unless that is what they all charge in this town.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a room facing the sea.

We had a pleasant time staying at this hotel and the room was very nice. However, we arrived at about 12.30pm after a VERY early flight to Glasgow and a 2.5 hour drive. When we arrived we were told we couldn't check in but when I asked if we could freshen up we were told that was ok. About 25 minutes later we were just having a sip of water in the bar before we went into town when a young women who I believe was the cleaner appeared and said "Arrival is not until 3 we can't have you skulking around here all day".

£175 per night for a room is not cheap and for this price I would expect some sort of customer service both in accommodating our needs and being polite!

Breakfast was good and the hotels proximity to Seafood Temple was very handy!

We had an 'interesting' stay at this establishment. Faulty Towers comes to mind. We arrived at 1pm and thought we may be able to drop our bags in order to catch the 2pm Ferry to Mull. In no uncertain terms we were told that was definitely not possible. Check in was 3pm. We were permitted to leave our car there. On returning we made the mistake of taking our suitcases with us, and were promptly told we would have to be downstairs with larger cases. This, after checking several times that we might have a room with a view of the bay, and we were assured this would be so.
The decor was that of a cheaper functionality of the 70s and the curtains were totally inadequate for long days of sunlight. They did not block the light at all. The bed was not good either...due for replacement, as with the decor. The bathroom was a small corner of the room chopped out for use with Lino floor and the ridiculous box hot water system found in lesser places around Scotland. This in a country where water is plentiful! Wifi was available in the bedroom but not main rooms.
The common rooms were pleasant and we found the company of other guests most convivial. But you don't dare cross Marian the lady of the house!
Breakfast was excellent served by Chrissy, but if you want your breakfast early, you had better get on the right side of Marian or the answer will be no.
All in all we felt that the number of stars this establishment has is absurd and the cost very steep. We had stayed in a b&b in St Catherine's for half the price and it was at least twice as good. And the host and hostess were most accommodating!
If you stay here, behave!

Room Tip: We were in room 1. Larger than the one we were shown above it but we were told by others that the r...

Stayed the night on business. Arrived at 11pm and left at 9.30am. Owner greeted me and was very friendly. I would happily stay again for longer and hope to return with my partner. Breakfast was nice with plenty on offer. The views from the rooms where stunning.

Stayed here in May for one night owners made me feel very welcome and are quite eccentric. 5 minutes walking distance to the town plenty of places to eat. Some great views from the rooms and grounds. I had to start work early in the morning so missed breakfast but a plate of scones croissants butter jam & fresh orange was brought to the room the night before.

Excellent hotel with stunning sea views. Within easy walking distance of the town we found some top class restaurants recommended by our hosts. The room was well appointed with a really comfortable bed and window seat with panoramic views. There was an extensive choice at breakfast which was plentiful and freshly prepared. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners who made us feel most welcome. The price is at the top end of the scale but you get what you pay for and the Dungallan experience is definitely worth the money! Would love to stay here again.

Room Tip: Some rooms are accessed by steep stairs so it would be sensible to let the owners know if you have a...

Called in for a drink with friends for the second time in 12 months, views are exceptional. Owners appear to be completely bonkers!!!!! Difficult to understand a bar with just bottled Spitfire as the only beer and Miller "cold or room temp" as the alternative. Very strange. Glad to get outside and look at the view, and didn't bother with another drink as the potential for engaging with the owners was too much. Save yourself the trouble and go to the Manor House at the bottom of the hill.
