Booked a long weekend in April on arrival was asked if I'd booked and payed for parking at the hotel, even with spaces available I still had to pay £5.00 a night, booked a sea view which added another £27.00 a night just kept adding to the holiday. Can't say the evening meals were anything to write home about mostly cold to warm by the time we were served only response when complaining to the waitress was I'll tell the cook.Breakfasts were nice.Anyone with mobility problems would find it difficult getting up the stairs to reseption.

The manager was extremely helpful even organising tea and toast for us at 4am due to our business trip, rooms were nice and clean with tea/coffee, brilliant shower and comfortable bed. It has great views overlooking the harbour. Short walking distance to Oban centre, plenty of parking. Thanks for a calm and relaxing stay.

Room Tip: lovely view of the harbour at the front

... but only if they remember. It was a shortish walk to the public car park for us instead. OK it turned out cheaper but with a heavy downpour in progress on arrival, it wasn’t much fun. The entrance certainly looks grand, but beware the steps are a little slippery when wet.

The hotel is not far from the town centre, on the sea front and like all I've been to, once grand but now in need of a little TLC.

Our room was a good size with a great view out of the front to Kerrara, when it wasn’t raining but that’s luck of the draw. The bath was excellent with plenty of hot water but the shower was plumbed in incorrectly and gave torrents of very cold water. The towel rail didn’t stay on more than 10 minutes either. Some of our party had rooms with FreeView TV, but ours was just the basic four channels + Film4. One of the twin beds was reasonably firm but the other wasn’t. Oh well you get what you pay for and it hasn’t stopped us from going to most Shearing's hotels in Scotland.

Meals were that same as all Shearing’s hotels but they seemed a little better, perhaps it was our waitress ‘ildi ‘who we knew from Pitlochry last year. She is certainly good at her job, pleasant demeanour and an asset to the hotel.

We had a great long weekend in this Hotel. While its not the Ritz, I did not pay the Ritz prices. It is in a great location, the views are fantastic with good food and value for money prices. Having only booked B&B we seen the menu in the hall which looked pretty good, so we asked how the price and was pleasantly surprised to find it was only £15 for 3 courses plus coffee/tea. We decided to eat in the Hotel that night and was not disappointed. The rooms are very large, warm and clean and service in the Hotel was good. The only down side I found was that you can not charge any drinks to your room - you need a separate bar tab which I found unusual, and as I was all ready eating my starter I was not going to leave and go to the bar to do this.

Room Tip: High floor at front.

We booked a 5 day holiday with National Holidays from 29 April 2013. We had a wonderful time at this hotel and the food was excellent. We upgraded to a sea view room and the views were stunning. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Our waitress was just lovely and so obliging. The Manager, Darren, was great and so helpful. He also told us that the hotel was about to undergo refurbishment very soon so can't wait to see the new decor. We will definitely revisit this hotel.

Stayed here for 4 nights in March with Shearings Coach holidays, we had a small attic room with ensuite facilities. Food was very good, nightly entertainment, excursions out, very warm in the lounges of an evening, hotel is a bit dated and floorboards very creaky, waitresses and waiters from Russia. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: pay extra for a superior room at the front

Booked a Sheerings self drive for four nights in a superior sea view room - very reasonably priced and not a lot wrong with it for the money. The room was spacious with a superb view over the harbour and warm - when the electric heater had had time to thaw it out. The bathroom had been refurbished and was modern and functional. Dinner on the first night was not good - (breaded fish - mostly coating) and one pork snichel (mostly coating). After that the food was fine - not massive portions and the vegetables lacked imagination but both breakfast and dinner were each fine thereafter. The reception, dining room and bedroom staff were faultless and a joy to be served by. The dining room, reception and foyer were very tired and in need of modernisation. Overall a lovely holiday but after my second Bay holiday will I being going on a third ????

Room Tip: Pay the extra for superior
