“Nice hotel and great location”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

Recently returned from a trip to the Manor House Hotel in Oban. It's a lovely looking hotel and has a nice garden and views to enjoy.

Room was spotlessly clean, with Molton Brown toiletries and free WiFi.

The location of the hotel is ideal - it's in a quiet location (just up from the ferry terminal) but it only takes around 10 minutes to get to the terminal. It's also only a couple of hundred yards from the Seafood Temple Restaurant.

Although we didn't eat in the hotel in the evening (it did look very popular), we had nice breakfasts.

Would recommend the Manor House Hotel if going to Oban!

Booked this hotel for one night prior to a Hebridean cruise, all to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. We fell so much in love with this hotel, we could have married it! Small country house in style, it is extremely comfortable: a lovely cosy atmosphere, nicely furnished, with pretty gardens running down to the water's edge, and a beautiful restaurant serving fabulous food. The staff are very friendly, extremely hard working and helpful; in our room was a complimentary bottle of wine and a lovely card for our anniversary (and I only mentioned it in passing on the phone). The room (No. 1) was priced as a standard garden room - it wasn't over-large, but was very nice and with a sea-view! The ensuite shower/loo was spacious, spotless and in very good order. We are already booked in again for next year. This is probably the best hotel in Oban, and we thought it was worth the long journey from Yorkshire just on its own account! A little gem.

We arrived late in the evening from a ferry- the location is excellent for this being just a short 5 minute walk from the ferry terminal. We were warmly and efficiently welcomed by Alan and made to feel immediately at home in the Manor House Hotel. Alan is a credit to the hotel and we both commented on what a difference great service makes to a hotel. Lovely comfortable surroundings, quaint and tastefully decorated and not twee. We found all the staff we encountered during our short stay to be professional, polite and friendly. Thank you. We look forward to returning sometime when we can hopefully enjoy dinner and a longer stay.

My husband and I were delighted with our decision to stay at 'The Manor House' hotel Oban. We booked a Sea View Room and were thrilled with the marvellous all-encompassing view of the harbour and pretty seaside village of Oban. I can't imagine a better place to stay in Oban; an easy 10 minute walk to the main street, and positioned perfectly to take in Oban's splendid aspect.
We had upstairs corner, Room 5, with the wonderful unobstructed views over the harbour, the village, and the folly on the hill beyond. Binoculars were thoughtfully provided. I enjoyed the most splendid views from the supportive, yet dreamily soft bed. Everything about the Manor House was first class; tasteful luxurious decor, antiques, and artworks, a divinely comfortable bed, a good selection of soft and firm pillows, huge fluffy towels, robes, high quality toiletries, deep bathtub, chocolates in the room and common rooms, and exceedingly helpful and friendly staff.
My husband and I dined in the restaurant and were overwhelmed by the quality of the 5 course degustation meal. We felt that it was the best meal of our month-long holiday in Scotland. The restaurant is certainly deserving of at least two Michelin stars. The duck canapé starter was a delicious amuse-bouche, the sweet potato and rosemary soup a fabulous starter, the white peach sorbet was the perfect pallet cleanser, the venison was the best I have ever had, and the apple brioche had me in raptures! Breakfast the next morning was first rate.
'The Manor House' is perfection.

Room Tip: We loved the Sea View room, (Room 5). I could lie in bed and take in the gorgeous view from the low...

Wow! Thank you for your lovely detailed review. We appreciate greatly your taking the time to share your experiences. Room 5 is our favourite as well. One of our first decorating projects when we purchased the hotel in 2000.
We will look forward to seeing you again.

Sleeping could be considered a core function/rather essential element for a hotel - if you take the beds out of a hotel, it won't make money. Seems straight forward right? Well if you think so perhaps you take the manager of the Manor House Hotel aside and ask her/him what exactly they were thinking when they shoe-horned a tiny little bed into an even smaller room and then thought it would be suitable for 2 people. The room was oompa-loompa sized so there are no places to put your suitcases. The bed can not disobey the laws of physics so it follows the size of the room - tiny. And then to top it off they put wonder-wobbly the foam and uncomfortable mattress upon it and expect guest to have a good sleep. To get you and your partner in the room, washed up and ready for bed requires acrobatics and choreographing that would put the bolshoi and cirque de soleil to shame. It is a pity as the Manor House is well maintained and their staff are wonderfully helpful, but the rooms and beds just let the whole place down.

Room Tip: Shrink yourself so you fit in the bed!

I am sorry you were unhappy with your room.

The Manor House dates back to 1780 and some rooms are small. I hope we were clear about that in our web site. Three of our standard sea-view rooms have standard double-size beds which are small if you are accustomed to sleeping on a queen.

Two of the standard rooms overlooking the front garden are larger and have queen beds. We also have three superior rooms that are quite spacious and have king, queen and twin beds respectively. I think you would have been happier with a superior room.

I don’t understand your description of the bed. The mattresses we buy are of a high quality and checked regularly. There is no foam. We would appreciate your sending us a note identifying your room so that we can understand better what went wrong.

Nonetheless, we are disappointed your stay was not more enjoyable and hope we can have another chance to earn your approval.

Respectfully

Les & Margaret Crane

Finding a place via the internet always has its risks, but this one ticks all the boxes.
The rooms are beautifully arranged and spacious (we had the smallest!), the public rooms are wonderful, with breathtaking views, the staff are all happy, friendly and delightful, and the food is as good as any Michelin-starred restaurant. Held up on the A85 leaving Oban due to a serious accident and my first reaction was to see if the Manor House had room for another night. Excellence all round, and will definitely be going back. A big thank-you to everyone we met there.

Room Tip: Just go for the best. ONly reason we didn't is because they were all booked. Brilliant winter t...

stayed here for a mini honeymoon, was excellent, staff upgraded us to a superior seaview room which was lovely with a stunning view of the bay. bottle of champagne sitting for us and a nice card from the staff which was a good touch.
booked into the restaraunt on our first night, food was excellent, some of the best we have eaten, goes to show how good it was as on a monday night the restaraunt was extremely busy, but the food and service was really good.
if there was one bad point id have to say that the floorboards were a little creaky and you could hear people in the rooms next to ours although this is to be expected in an old building such as this, and as its a small hotel there arent many guests walking about the corridors.
overall really enjoyed our stay here.
