“Was it worth the wait?”
Reviewed 12 August 2014 via mobile

NO!
We had dined here approx 5 years ago and had a very good experience!
This occasion we had to wait in excess of 30mins for our order and when it came we wish we hadn't waited. The steak pie is better from Sainsburys and my partner described the Hunters Chicken as "positively ordinary". It was unappetising food, served by staff who could not care less. No one enquired if the food was alright, in other words they were not bothered!

“Hmmm”
Reviewed 1 August 2014 via mobile

It's a prominent, impressive looking building the Caledonian Hotel. We visited the cafe for scones and tea. The scones were dry, the service was hard work- I'm not averse to foreign people working in the service industry however I do think it's good policy to employ people who can actually service their customers and understand them.

“Oh dear....we wish we hadn't gone in”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

We wish we'd read these reviews before we went in. The place was almost empty with one member of staff behind the bar. We both ordered soup and a sandwich from the menus on the table to be told after he'd taken the order that we couldn't have that as that menu finished at 4pm (it was around 5pm). We decided just to have soup which was around £5 and when it arrived was almost the smallest bowl of soup we have ever seen (that award goes to a cafe in Ambleside!). The waiter was clueless when he brought the soup and didn't know what sort he was bringing. While we were eating our soup a senior member of staff began to reprimand the member of staff behind the bar which I found to be absolutely disgraceful! No member of staff should be reprimanded in front of customers! The poor chap, whether he was at fault or not, should not be humiliated in public, neither should customers be made to feel uncomfortable by hearing this. Bad management!!

“poor afternoon tea”
Reviewed 11 April 2014

Stopped in for tea & scone, very cheap but woeful service, ignored when we arrived, waitress looked annoyed when we moved seats and barely spoke. The atmosphere was cold and the decor Spartan, won't be back.
