You can't get fresher. Oysters, crab, lobster, scallops, salmon sandwiches . . . nothing fancy - green wooden hut on the pier, but food is great.

Prices are fantastic compared to restaurants (75p for an oyster!!!) but staff could so with smiling now and again . . . it's such a fun location and the experience of the fresh seafood is so good, that the one thing which could endanger the whole thing is sullen servers. Not that all were . . . some were really friendly.

Well worth the the short walk to the south pier - past the touristy shops and fishing boats, towards the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry terminal.

I love this hut. Scotland should have more of these kind of eating places: cheap, delicious and totally unpretentious. The food sings with freshness and is served promptly. The staff are pleasant and know their stuff. While we were there the lassie took the time to show some small boys the live crabs sitting in the pots. The wee lads were delighted by her tales of crab races.

We enjoyed scallops with lemon and garlic but the languostines in garlic butter were the stars. Huge pile of them on a paper plate with a hunk of nice bread and a bit of greenery. Spot on. The lovely Canadian couple who stood near us (there is very limited seating) had a plate of oysters served properly on ice and commented on how much better they were than the ones they'd had in a restaurant the previous night.

We would have followed their example but time was pressing so we just bought a pile of oysters, scallops, languostines and crabs from the fish shop next door and had them later. Both the fish shop and the hut are a must if you are in Oban.

On our short break to Scotland we took a trip up to Oban for the day and as usual, being beside the sea I had a fancy for some fish and chips, only to get a shock at the prices the chippys were charging for Haddock and chips (£9), thank god the kids pulled me towards where the Caledonian Ferry was docked and we chanced upon the 'Seafood Hut'. What a find!
This place is what Fast food dining is all about! We spent a good hour sitting on the benches and worked our way through every variety of seafood they had for sale, in fact if I was alone I would have spent all day there just eating! You can't get much fresher! The ferry can be noisy when it's docked but dont let that stop you visiting this Oasis of seafood!!!! I bought some mussels, prawns and a live crab to take back to our Loch side rented log cabin for a snack later that evening only to find the kids had sneaked the crab out and released it into the Loch! So if you see 'Freddie the crab' in Loch Awe please say high from Honey and Kyle!

This little hut does what many seafood restaurants fail on it sells fresh quality seafood that isn't mucked up about with. The staff were friendly and gave some of the customers who perhaps havent sampled such fresh seafood the confidence to try. This isn't the type of place you would go for dinner but it is so good for lunch the setting and food are fantastic. I will certainly be returning next time my travels bring me to Oban.
