On our honeymoon tour through Scotland, Oban was one of the cities to visit. We stayed one night in the Columba Hotel. It's nicely situated on the pier. It's a big hotel with one or even two bars in it and a restaurant.
On checking in we found out that our travel agency had not booked us a room at the Columba in Oban (the secound time on our honeymoon that a booking was not confirmed!). The lady at the reception tried her best to find out what had gone wrong and booked us in a beautiful room with a nice view on the harbor and sea.
The next morning she informed us that the agency had booked us in a wrong hotel (Inverness Columba Hotel, 175 KM north). We were very happy to be served so friendly and helpfull.
Our room was furnished modern and tastefull. The bathroom was nice and clean, hot water running from the tabs. The bed was very comfy, sheets clean.
The elevator didn't work, we walked, no problem, we didn't have heavy luggage. It would be a problem though, if one did have heavy suitcases, having to use the stairs.
We'd certainly come back to this hotel when visiting Oban.

If there is one room you would wish to have at this hotel its W12- The State Room. It boasts two double beds, a three piece suite, a dining table, a large 42" flat screen TV, and views to the north, west and east through the room's twelve (TWELVE) windows.

Breakfast is excellent - good variety.

The staff are helpful and engaging. I was particularly impress with the receptionist ( it was a double barrled Christian name, Marie-something). I thought she was excellent, and coped very well with a number of demanding guests as we waited in the queue to be served.

The hotel is right in the centre of Oban, and is perfectly located for catching a beautful sunset. You are close to restaurants, there is a huge (by Oban standards) next to the hotel.

There is free wi-fi, but not through the whole hotel - if they can get that sorted then this could be one of the best Scottish hotels I have stayed in

i spent two nights at the columba hotel as the tour guide of a very small group of travellers. the first impression of the hotel, from the outside, was less than overwhelming - a rather old and dark building (or rather two that have been joined), several empty-looking houses and businesses in the vicinity, a public car park right in front of the hotel. but - as soon as we were inside, we were pleasantly surprised. sarah, the receptionist, readily found us a suitable room for one member of the group who had trouble walking, although the hotel appeared to be quite full. the quality of the rooms is also worth mentioning. i had a single room in the attic, and it was certainly one of the nicest hotel rooms i've ever stayed in - spacious, clean, practical, recently redone, with a large bathroom and a great view over the port towards the isle of mull. the lift is a different matter altogether, though! it seems to have been borrowed from the "lift museum"! its doors do not shut automatically, so if someone forgets to shut them, the lift is blocked! furthermore, it does not stop on the second floor, so that people who are staying on this floor either have to walk up from the first or down from the third! the breakfast room and the dining room, on the other hand, are quite elegant, the breakfast itself leaves nothing to be desired, the service is friendly and efficient. a special mention has to go to ruairidh (pronounced 'roorie'), the young gentleman who works at the reception and the bar, for his exceptional friendliness, efficiency and helpfulness!

i had booked the columba through last minute.com and on arrival, our room was nicely done out but the view was awful and the windows were small. The next day i spoke to a lovely lady on reception called Jean, who moved us to a much grander room at no extra cost. it was more of a suite to be honest, and had two tv's. the windows were huge and it had a turret room on the side as a study area. the views were breathtaking. oban is a little tired as a town, and maybe suffers from too much bad weather, but we had beautiful weather, and the service and food at the columba was just great. The only thing i would say could be better are the corridors. they need a refurb, but the rooms are great.

We stayed here for four nights, with a coach party from the Midlands. We had previously read some reviews of this hotel but decided to go with an open mind, and were very pleasantly surprised. We found all the staff to be very helpful and friendly despite the hotel's group owners being in receivership at the time.

The hotel is well, located right next to the harbour with beautiful views from our very nice refurbished room (302) which was on the top floor. The TV was a 32" wall mounted Samsung with excellent reception and lots of channels to choose from, better than some of the more expensive hotels we have stayed at previously

The lift is small and antiquated but being reasonably fit and in our mid 50's we were happy to use the stairs, rather than waiting for the lift.

The food choice and quality in the restaurant was excellent and plentyful. We felt that with two Coach trips staying here, the level of service was outstanding. The lounge bar area was on the small side for the numbers of people staying here.

In summary we had a wonderful relaxing time with some great companions at this hotel.

We booked one night in the Columba Hotel but once there we booked for a second night. The entrance is very shabby and the reception area quite bleak. We were allocated a room on the second floor and advised that the lift wouldn't stop there, so my husband took the lift to the third floor with the suitcases and walked back down to the second (I refused to use the lift when I saw how tiny and antiquated it was).

The decor of the bedroom was surprisingly modern, though the mattress on the bed had seen better days. The bedroom and the en suite bathroom were clean. The breakfast was perfectly good and all the staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. We did not have our evening meals in the hotel.

I have taken the opportunity to relay the feedback to the team. We do take customer feedback very seriously and welcome the feedback of both positive and negative points. Regretfully, the completion of the ground floor areas and lift scheduled for refurbishment has been slightly delayed, however, we hope to get this back on track soon. Thank you once again for your feedback and we hope we can welcome you back to the Columba Hotels once again.
