When we got there at 12 we were not aloud to check in till 3pm.when we went to our room which has a sea view as advertised but it was as the back on the main hotel and not of the bay as you would think by the setting and the photos advertised. The room was rather smaller that most hotels that I have stayed in at the same price range and it lacked something that is the norm for other hotel chains, a bottle of water a table ordesk to work on aswell as a dressing table, but there was no room. I also found the tea tray on the floor, that was a first!!. The room was clean the staff friendly, the view from the bar in the evening, across the bay was great.

Thank you for reviewing our property on Trip Advisor. All feedback is important to us and used to improve services where possible. Check In time is 3pm, and if possible we try to let guests check in early, however, this is not always possible especially during the busy season. The Superior bedrooms in the Victorian part of the building do have magnificent sea views from large windows, but attract a small upgrade supplement. The majority of standard rooms in the extension also have a sea view and we are pleased that you enjoyed your view from the room. The rooms are well appointed with a super-king size beds and a desk, along with some comfy chairs. We are sorry that the bedroom facilities did not meet your expectations, however we are pleased to read that you enjoyed the views from the large bay window in the Lounge and you found our staff to be friendly. Once again, thank you for your review.

We enjoyed our stay at The Queens Hotel very much. The staff were very welcoming on arrival and helped to carry all the bags to our room. There is a lift on the first floor for all the floors above which is very helpful with heavy bags. The room was at the back of the hotel, but roomy and bathrooms very clean. Even though we were at the back we still had a sea view. The lady we spoke to at the desk while checking out the next morning was delightful. We had a family problem and had to go back to the hotel an hour after check out to make phone calls and she couldn't have been more supportive and helpful. We would recommend this hotel to all those who travel through Oban. The town itself is one of the most beautiful, relaxing and picturesque towns we have visited.

Super hotel in the perfect location for our needs. Were attending a wedding in the corran halls & this hotel was a maximum of 5 mins (drunk) walk away!

The cleanliness of the hotel gets 5* as could not have been cleaner. Rooms were a good size esp after talking to others at the wedding who felt they were in shoes box sized rooms in other hotels in the area. Lovely fresh white bed linen as expected & very comfy beds. There was also a jacuzzi bath, didnt use this though so can't say if it was good or not.

Breakfast was also great a wide selection of hot & cold options and the staff serving were all friendly.

Only negatives were the check in times- 3 o'clock we had arrived at 12 for a 1pm wedding & had wanted to check in to get our room key then as we had not been sure at what time we would have been back from the wedding. Explained to the receptionist we didn't need to put our thing in the room but was firmly told had to check in after 3. Shower in the room also leaked onto the floor & it was diff to get the temp right. Another negative (getting picky here) was the fluffiness of the towels- they were a good size but not very fluffy!

Scored the value for money at 3. We were only in the room to sleep was worked out an expensive 'bed for a night' at £145 for a twin room. Had left it late to book so was limited in what there was to pick from.

To finish- would be a lovely place to stay if on holiday- comfy, clean hotel good breakfast to get you ready for the day ahead!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on Trip Advisor. It was great to read that you found the bedroom comfy and enjoyed our full Scottish Breakfast. We are sorry that we couldn’t get you checked into the room before the 3pm check in time, however during the busy season it is not always possible to have the rooms ready earlier than this time. In regard to the price of the room, we constantly benchmark our prices against local competitors in order to offer four star full service hotel accommodation and services at the best possible price. We are glad that overall you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for placing a review on Trip Advisor.

I was coming in to Oban on the ferry from Mull and I saw the Queen's Hotel from the boat - I hadn't realized it was a Best Western, an affiliation that normally doesn't do it for me. So I approached the place without much enthusiasm. This was reinforced by problems with parking and being assigned a room that was a nightmare to get to with a heavy bag. Room was decent enough however. I decided to have dinner in the hotel and the general sense of mediocrity was reinforced by the wine list, two thirds of which wasn't available. I rather despairingly ordered dinner and to my astonishment and delight I was served an absolutely superb meal. Fresh ingredients, cooked with care and innovation, it was outstanding. It is worth going there for the dinner alone. I was also impressed later by the manager, who resolutely refused to serve food from the bar memu in the dining room to another table - she was committed to maintaining standards.

We would like to sincerely thank you for placing a review of our property on Trip Advisor. BEST WESTERN hotels are all independently owned and operated within the UK. However the message from BEST WESTERN’s central office is strongly customer focused. Indeed the group hopes to offer the best customer service of any hotel group worldwide. This is a great philosophy to which we daily strive to uphold. The team and I were delighted to read you comments about your dinner. We are also pleased to advise you that the wine list problems have been rectified via a new vintner: Inverarity Vaults. We are now offering an exceptional list of fine wines to compliment our outstanding cuisine. Once again thank you so much for taking the time to review our property.

I had previously stayed in the hotel in 2011, whilst not the cheapest, it has a nice location, and is within an easy level walk of the railway station in Oban.

Therefore I booked again in 2012 for a couple of nights. In hindsight I wish I hadn't as the front office staff tried to charge me for an extra nights accommodation when I returned from my trip from Barra.

The idea that the customer is right, and that office staff should have checked the booking first was beyond their comprehension.

It needed the hotel manager to be called in to resolve the situation.

It was awful end to a long day, which up to then had been fantastic.

Other points to note, breakfast is a buffet - which is ok, but very average, and they want you out of the breakfast room by 9:30.

The room I stayed in is at the back of the hotel - most rooms are located here, and don't have bay views. It was clean, but the welcome tea tray on the floor is a bit odd. on the plus side the free wifi is good.

For reference I stayed in a B&B in Barra and for half the price had a bigger room, breakfast cooked to order, better tea tray and a much nicer and more friendly stay.

If arriving late I think they stop doing meals around 9-9:30, and don't have room service either, there is also no bottled water in the room.

I'm also not sure how it is able to get a 3/4 star rating, as I wouldn't rate it above an IBIS hotel.
