“Great Breakfasts!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2013 via mobile

If you are an American who expects things to be just like America when you travel abroad...leave that notion at home or you will be constantly unhappy. I preface my remarks about Queens Hotel with that disclaimer because folks in Scotland see things a bit diffrently than Americans do. You will find that if you are expecting a "lift" or elevator, you will not find it until you climb a rather long flight of stairs. If you have physical empairments or a ton of luggage, this may not work out for you. You will find that most hotels, especially in Oban, are in quite old buildings with their own unique limitations to overcome. That being said, you will also find that the service is top flight, the rooms are clean and comfortable and have all the things you will expect in a hotel. We were fortunate and were given a wonderful room with a magnificent view of Oban Bay. It's particularly thrilling when you see the ferry that runs between Oban and the Isle of Mull swing right at your hotel and the seawall across the street from it on its way back to port. Full breakfasts, included in the price of your room if you choose, are amazing. They have a little of everything. If you like to walk, it is only about a 10 or 15 minute walk into town and if not, there is a bus and plenty of taxis. This was a quite satisfactory place to hang your hat for a while.

We were only here for a night as we were catching a ferry to the Outer Hebrides the following afternoon, but we were very impressed by the young jolly fellow at the reception desk and how welcoming and helpful he was to us both. The dining experience was a bit strange as it was quite formal and maybe trying to be too upmarket in style when the place really needed a more country style and relaxed dining experience to go with the location. Otherwise a lovely hotel.

An excellent hotel in a great location. All the staff were friendly and efficient. The food is excellent in both restaurant and grill bar. The entire hotel had an excellent standard of upkeep. Check in and check out was quick and efficient. I would certainly stay here again.

We have stayed in a number of Best Western hotels and the food here was exceptional. The staff in the bar and restaurant were overworked but nevertheless the standard of service was excellent. We stayed for 4 nights and my only criticism is that the menu does not change. I understand that the restaurant menu is of an exceptional standard but I would have appreciated one change a day.
Overall we had a great week. The weather was amazing for May in Scotland and the staff could not do enough for you.
Having read some other reviews I am amazed at what people have said. I know we are all different but..... Superb food all round but maybe rethink the menu.
Thank you for making us so welcome and accommodating any request. I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

We stayed for five nights here arriving on a Tuesday. Luckily we had taken the confirmation email of our booking as they only had us down for one night the following Saturday! We had paid extra for a superior sea view room and we had one of the first floor rooms with the bay window so you could lie in bed and watch the Mull ferry going by and with the window open hear the sea lapping the shore. Only criticism was that there was only one large and one small drawer and the wardrobe wasn't very big. (Tip: don't take too many clothes!) The staff were very friendly and efficient. We ate in the bar 4 nights and the last night in the restaurant. The bar was quite good and the restaurant excellent, however if you are staying for a number of nights you need to be aware that the menu stays exactly the same in both the bar and restaurant. They obviously needed more restaurant customers - only 3 tables occupied on a Saturday - and we felt that if they changed the menu a little or put on some 'specials' they might attract more people. The food was good value and the breakfast was superb, the best we've ever had at a Best Western.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

The hotel is well situated within easy walking distance of the centre of Oban. The views from the hotel over the bay are magnificent, especially if you have a room facing in that direction. Unfortunately we didn't! The hotel throughout was clean, the rooms were comfortable and benefitted from a spa bath. The staff were particularly helpful and quickly resolved a minor problem of a water leak. The breakfasts were good and plentiful and a fine dining evening meal was superb, and reasonably priced. Recommended to all visitors to Oban!

When we entered our room we were a little disappointed in the decor, but then to have such a lovely Spa Bath with lights really made up for it. The room was very clean and comfortable.
The staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much for them, some more training would be helpful but everyone was doing their best. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and the meal was superb, I started with the Pea Soup, who would know it could be served so well and the rest of our meal too, compliments to the chef. On the whole very nice and I would be happy to stay again.
