“Great Weekend Break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

Every member of staff we met was courteous, polite and attentive from start to finish. The view across the bay from room 41 was fabulous. Our Friday night dinner in the Glen Campa Restaurant was beyond compare - we enjoy good food regularly in Glasgow - this was even better. The jacuzzi bath in the room was brilliant. Would we stay again? - just try to stop us!

We were staying at a nearby bed & breakfast and decided to try the evening meals in this hotel as it was handier than going into the centre of Oban where there is very limited parking available. We walked to The Queens but could have taken the car. The hotel has a small car park in front of it and there is parking available on the road (Esplanade) leading to it. The hotel has a restaurant where you have to have a minimum of two courses and it also has a bar with a seating area for taking bar meals. We chose the latter as it was reasonably presented with polished tables and it had a pleasant atmosphere. There was a good choice of starters, main courses and sweets as well as wines.
Our meals were well cooked and we received attentive service throughout the meal. Early in the meal my wife dropped her knife on the floor. This was spotted by the barman who dashed over and immediately replaced it. We would happily eat there again.

We were on a small group tour. This place is about as basic as you can get. No blackout curtains, scratched up night table and desk. Hardly room to turn around. Comfortable mattress.
Check-in took forever. They wanted CC ahead to charge drinks, otherwise you must pay at bar and get own wine. Only place which did this. Set menu was okay. Buffet breakfast was fast, but scrambled eggs were very dry.

Good location right on the sea front walking distance to the town / shops / ferries , comfortable rooms beds fantastic well appointed bathroom can't fault the room, good hanging space for bike gear. Breakfast excellent, don't rate the bar food though expensive and not good, had better for less money

Room Tip: Don't get close to the lift as its noisy rooms on the back tend to get noise from the kitchen fa...

Stayed here recently and was totally underwhelmed by this hotel. Tiny car park with some people taking up two spaces. The bar, lounge and restaurant have no atmosphere whatsoever and relaxing in the lounge is reminiscent of an old people's home! We ate in the bar and the 'fine dining' restaurant. Bar food was ok but little pricey. What they like to call their 'fine dining' restaurant is a poor attempt at fine dining. The waiter/receptionist poured the first glass asking me if I was having red too when he was pouring from a bottle of Rosé! They did not keep an eye on our glasses and we had to refill ourselves. Menu was sparse and if you were foolish to dine in here over a week you would most likely be eating the same food night after night. 'Fine dining' its not! As other people have stated the rooms in what can only be described as an annexe are reminiscent of a run down travelodge but smaller. The duvets were cheap manmade fibre that you would find in a budget hotel. On arrival I couldn't see the tea and coffee making facilities but then found the tray underneath one of the bedside units. There wasn't really anywhere to place this on the dressing table and had to unplug a lamp and try and stretch the cable down to the socket. 'Free wifi throughout the hotel' their in room book states. Not if you're in the 'annex' you then have to sit right next to the window or open it and lean out. Good selection at breakfast but don't expect plastic jams/marmalades especially not 'golden shred' why not have some nice Scottish marmalades? I imagine that any positive views are from those who have money to waste and stayed in the 'luxury' rooms/suites. Don't stay here, won't return 4 star it's not!! It's surprising that the management don't even bother to comment on anyone's review, well no it's not as they can't really argue with what's being said.

Room Tip: Find another hotel!!

The graceful white-painted facade on Oban Harbor masks a poor update within, with big ugly leather chairs in the lounge and a cheerless bar area where pub meals are served. Most of the rooms are in the addition behind the original building and lack the harbor views of the original quarters. The room that my husband and I had was dominated by an enormous bed (attached twins) and had little room for anything else, no place for suitcases except the floor and no place that the electric kettle could be conveniently plugged in. I'd say it was inferior to the average U.S.
motel room and more poorly sound-proofed. Much too expensive for what was provided.
On the plus side, we were lucky enough to snare one of the few parking places belonging to the hotel. A staff member advised us to hold on to it and we did, leaving the car there until we were ready to leave Oban. Too, the waiters and barmen were very pleasant, though they seemed over-worked. Doubling as a waiter, the pub bar-tender was absent a lot so there were people hanging around waiting to order drinks.
I would not return to the Queens Hotel nor recommend it.

Room Tip: Rooms 1-8 look like the original elegant large-windowed rooms. I would assume that half of these fa...

As someone who has travelled extensively both abroad and at home this is not a 4 star hotel. Bad soundproofing, tiny room, the photos are totally misleading. Although we did not use the restaurant because there was nothing on it we liked (our choice) we had a meal in the bar and I could have done better myself. Husband had lamb but they did not have mint sauce. Understaffed in the bar area as receptionist was trying to serve us lunch and do everything else. Bar not open until later. No porter service or even an offer of help with bags. Packets of jam, butter, etc does not belong in a 4star hotel. Totally misleading, the worst place we have stayed in for years. I will say one thing it was clean and the staff were okay.

Room Tip: If you must stay in this hotel I would make sure you get a room in the main house and not in the wha...
