“Excellent hotel”
Reviewed 1 January 2014 via mobile

We booked for one night here before catching the ferry to the Isle of Mull. Very friendly staff, very clean and excellent food. Ideal place to stay whilst visiting Oban or doing what we did by breaking up our journey.

Stayed December 2013, travelled as a couple

I have stayed at this hotel with my family for a few nights each year for a number of years whilst visiting my dad in Oban.
Unfortunately, my dad passed away recently, and in the weeks leading up to this death, my family and myself were visiting more regularly.
Due to his condition and the distance we lived from Oban, we were arriving at all times of the day and night.
The hotel staff could not have been more understanding and sympathetic, so much so that I requested to have the funeral wake in the hotel.
Again, this was excellent, with many of the guests positively commenting on the quality of the food.
The beds in this hotel really are good hotel quality, and I have never had a bad night's sleep in all my visits.
Despite the loss of my dad, we will still visit Oban from time to time, and I will definitely return to this hotel.
Try one of the Argyll Angus Burgers on the bar menu !!!

Stayed 2 nights at this recently renovated hotel. We got the sea view room we requested which was quite small but adequate The lift was a bit iffy and on one occasion wouldn't go! The free wi-fi
was good ,the bed was nice large and comfortable. The breakfast on the first morning was prepared from the kitchen ,don't know when the bacon was cooked but it could have souled my shoe if needed The buffet breakfast second morning was fine but the bacon wasn't much better The staff were all very pleasant and efficient The room was spotless as was the bathroom

Room Tip: Sea view is nice

I am glad to read that you enjoyed your wee break here at the Queens.

The chef is going to have a look at the quality of the bacon we are being supplied, with a view to improving.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

We stayed at this hotel the night before a Ferry crossing to the Isle of Mull to get married. Upon arrival we found that the request for room upgrades by the Best Western Booking Line, courtesy of a BW Diamond Reward Card, had been ignored even though the hotel was virtually empty.

When we asked we were upgraded to two of the best rooms in the hotel. One was fine the other had a detached bath panel in the middle of the bedroom and a set of spare bathroom taps not connected to anything.

The second room allocated had a feeling of not having been used for quite a while.

The information in the Guest Book contained the set of Hotel rules and threats of fines. For example:-

Smoking in the room - A fine not less that £250 (Fair enough)

A fine of £150 for the following:-

Draping items on the heated towel rail.
At home we have heated towel rails and always hang our towels on them to dry as we thought this was exactly what they were for.

Hanging socks or pants on the lampshades or light fittings to dry.
We were totally unaware that this was a custom in Scotland never heard of it before.

Allowing steam to escape from the bathroom?

Abusing, soiling or failing to take reasonable care of the property!

Drinking your own wine in the hotel - Corkage of £7.50.

A Safety Deposit Facility was available but only for items up to the value of £250, why would you want to put something of less value than that in a safe most people have a mobile phone worth more.

During pre dinner drinks we were told we were not allowed to eat in the restaurant as our food was off the bar menu. It was but the value of the food we were ordering came to more than the two course meals in the restaurant. When paying £130 plus for a meal for four we don’t want to sit in a bar showing Sky Sports especially when the Restaurant was virtually empty.

The clock in one of the bedrooms had not been turned back to GMT, had we relied on this we would have missed our Ferry.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review about the BEST WESTERN the Queens Hotel.
I can only apologise for your rooms not being automatically upgraded as they should have been. Due to human error this was overlooked but was rectified as soon as you pointed this out to reception.

The guidance notes in the rooms are there for the safety of our guests
E.g. the radiators are electric so hanging items on them could be a source of fire
Also at no time do we mention socks or pants, all we ask is that guests refrain from draping anything over light fittings.

As explained to yourselves at the time, the hotel restaurant is fine dining, therefore we do not allow bar meals to be served in the Glen Campa Restaurant. This in no way detracts from the standard of food served in the bar, but is purely down to the style of food and service in the restaurant.
Please also note that we do not have Sky Sports in the hotel bar.

I am sorry that one of your alarm clocks was not at the correct time and I can assure that all the rooms have since been checked

Stayed last night, never put reviews on, but food especially evening meal was just so good (including service) that had to put review in. Had 5 course meal which was really 8 with nibbles. Truely fine dining, but also being over 6 foot normally big eater didnt leave hungry.
Hotel overall good other staff also attentive. Only down side was wifi in top floor rm 48 didnt work.

i stayed over in November for an interview and found a very quiet room to sleep and study. Staff very polite and helpful. I would stay again for business and pleasure. Staff were lovely. Very quiet restaurant/bar - but then it was November. Room very small, but very comfortable. Wifi access is a little suspect at back of hotel. Could be improved.
