I stayed here for one night while travelling around Scotland. I booked a few hours before arriving and paid under 20 pound for a room for the night - brilliant value!! The hotel itself is quite old but is quite nice inside with several areas to relax and have a drink. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The room was small but very clean and did the job fine. The cooked breakfast was one of the best I have ever had at a B&B!! Oban is a great little place and I would recommend staying here if you travel to Oban.

This hotel has some real character with Art-deco styling and features.
The small staff work extremely hard to provide a very good level of service and the meals taken were good home cooking.
Most things were clean and tidy, (though the ingrained mould in the bathroom ceiling was beyond cleaning and the bed was comfortable
So why wouldn't I take the Wife? - sadly its just too run down to provide the level of presentation that we have come to expect in 2014. It could be lovely if taken back to its former glory, but I fear that would be cost prohibitive.
Well done though tho the staff who try so very very hard to make up for the deficiencies of the building.

I really shouldn't recommend this hotel because the building is basically tatty and run down. But the rooms were clean and the service and staff were excellent as was the evening meal, and the bill was almost embarrassingly small.

We paid just £30 per single room for dinner, bed and breakfast. The dinner and breakfast were probably worth almost £30 so, in effect, we had single beds for the night for nothing.

Hence although I wouldn't take my wife for a week's summer holiday. I have to give it a "4" rating simply on value for money

This is a beautiful art deco building in a superb location. They have retained all the features of the building, including some period furniture, table settings, etc. All the staff we dealt with were helpful and pleasant and the food was excellent. This was a one night stay to catch the early ferry so all we really wanted was a clean bed and a nice meal so we were satisfied, especially since we got a very good deal on price.

The hotel could be superb but is let down by the way it is maintained and, despite all the positives I have mentioned, I would not have stayed more than one night. Our room was small, not a big problem and something that cannot be resolved with the design of the hotel, but the walls and paintwork were marked and damaged, there was damage to the bathroom door and housekeeping could have been better as far as the bathroom was concerned with dirt visible in corners and under pipes, etc. In general, the décor in the hotel is poorly maintained with paint runs visible down window glass and peeling paper giving an unloved feeling to the property. I hope to return at some time and find that it is owned by someone who takes the time to bring out the many positives and features of this beautiful building to add to the excellent service provided by their front of house and kitchen staff.

Room Tip: Try to get a sea view, it looks out over the pier and Oban Bay.

my partner and i booked this particular hotel for a night away from the norm and had always wanted to visit Oban. the hotel was great value for money and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

The rooms were basic but well serviced for all your needs, tea, coffee etc.i felt that the hotel had great character, especially from the outside and could easily have been spending the night there in the 50's but i feel that this added to its appeal.

The hotel inside is modern to a degree but could do with some upgrading, such as gas central heating instead of the present electric heating which i found we had no control over the warmth of our room, and this is one of the only 2 faults i could find with this hotel, the other being the draughty windows, however this was compensated with heavy curtains to close in the evening.

unlike some hotels this was quiet with no noise pollution from outside or inside for that matter. The room we had was on the fourth floor and had a fantastic view over Oban bay.

one thing i would like to add, this hotel like most of the hotels has no onsite parking, which as this time of year is not so problematic. During the high season i think issues could be cause and that fact that you have to pay for parking will incur extra costs depending on the length of your stay

Having read some of the reviews we were a bit anxious about our visit, however we are glad to say that we have been pleasantly surprised. Yes some of the fixtures and fittings are a bit in need of fresh coat of paint, what does not need changed is the excellent standard menu or the ala carte menu. We especially liked the opt in or out of ala carte menu for a wee bit extra from the standard menu. We took advantage of this both nights we ate in and were very appreciative of the well chosen standard menu which changed nightly. The food on both menu's was well cooked, well presented and even better served. The staff were attentive to our needs without being intrusive, they were polite, well mannered and clean. The room although nothing special was clean and tidy, room staff out of sight as they should be. There was entertainment on both nights of our stay although we did not partake. The entertainment could not be heard from our room, nor did street noise intrude. Although there is not parking on site for which we deducted half a point there is parking nearby. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the town although you may need wet weather gear (not hotel's fault).

In short we will be coming back here, eating here and recommending here.

Wonderful friendly staff willing to go that extra mile to help. Our room had fab views of Oban Bay . Decor is tired and could do with a a refurbishment ...Irene and her team in the dining room make sure the service is first class.
