Booked through late rooms. 2 nights breakfast not included. Rooms & decor a bit dated but clean & good value for the money. Staff friendly & helpful. Be prepared for lots of stairs. Hotel appears to be decorated with family pictures & ornaments that seem out of place. Lots of photographs of family members on horses, OK if u like horses. Made the mistake of opening the window on a morning which is the cue for the local sea gulls to try & invite themselves in. Great location bang in the central of the harbour with lovely views. Above the main street but not interrupted with traffic noise. Would certainly stay again.

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. We have recently painted and papered a large section of the building but have tried to keep it in an older style in keeping with the age of the building.

The owners live in the building and I would agree that the amount of personal pictures may seem a little over the top for non animal lovers but we hope that this would create a more personal and homely feel.

We went off season (Oct) and had a great view of the harbor at a very good price. The owners are very friendly and let us use the lounge and computers after our check out. this was a godsend for boarding passes.
Oban is a very nice quaint city with regular ferries to Staffa, Iona and Mull.

Room Tip: Try to get a by view.

Once we had managed to find the hotel and a nearby 1 hour place to park and check in to the hotel we had to climb several flights of stairs with our luggage. Then the only place to park was in a car park about 600m away.....we needed a map to find it. We chose this hotel as it is close to the departure quay for the Mull, Staffa and Iona boat trip. Our room for three was small but adequate. The view from the window fantastic. What made this hotel so memorable for us were the delicious meals we had there cooked by the proprietor's mother, in an elegant dining room with beautiful views.

Thank you for your kind words.

The proprietor is the lady who was preparing your meals. We try and produce simple but good quality filling meals.

It is unfortunate that the family rooms are on the nigher floors as a means a longer walk to the larger rooms but it still surprises us the amount of people that choose the top floor to have the best view.

If there is something that we could change to make a future stay more enjoyable please let us know.

I was very pleased with our hotel room. Lovely view, good location, good sized double bed, small flat screen TV, decent sized wardrobe, full length mirror, smaller mirror on top of a dressing table, shower, heated towel rail. Cant fault it. Was reasonably priced too.

This room has one of our smallest televisions but we decided to keep it as it has such a good picture.

At 60 pounds without breakfast, the best thing I can say about The Palace Hotel is that has the perfect location for easy walking around Oban - right on the Corran Esplanade over looking the waterfront. It's an older property. The en suite rooms are quite adequate, but nothing special. Unfortunately, the hotel doesn't have an elevator and it was quite an ordeal carrying our luggage up to our room on the third floor.

I found the available full Scottish breakfast to be rather expensive at 10 pounds. Toast and coffee was offered at 3 pounds. Luckily, there are lots of cheaper nearby breakfast options available.

The place has a bit of a Fawlty Towers vibe about it. One thing I found odd and totally uncalled for was a prominent sign warning guests that if they brought outside food and drink into their rooms they would be charged a 40 pound fine.

Would I stay there again? Probably, because of the location.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

We are a small family run hotel in the centre of Oban and try and offer clean, safe and comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price. There is a 5 star hotel a short drive away which we have recommended to people when they have been looking for something special. There are also a number of back packers nearby should we be over someones budget we are more than happy to help people find what they are looking for.

We have one lower floor room for guest that may have problems with stairs and we are more than happy to recommend places with lifts should this not be available.

We offer individually priced items on the menu that offer great value with items starting from only £1.50. We are unlikely to be the cheapest due to the decision to use quality ingredients.

We wish that the no food and drink sign did not have to be in such a prominent position however this is a result of several guests ignoring our terms and conditions and the other signs and taking these items in and damaging furnishings etc.

We needed one night in Oban before catching the first morning ferry to Mull and proximity to the ferry is really the only reason to put up with this hotel. The staff serviced our needs, but without the usual friendliness that we encountered elsewhere in Scotland. Road noise even on a Sunday night made it hard to sleep, as did anxiety about picking up bed bugs or encountering vermin. We had to move one of the beds to fit our infant crib in the room and in so doing uncovered some sort of pest trap. For what we paid for this we would have done better to upgrade to a nicer hotel on the harbor. Never again.

Thank you for taking your time to write a review.

The hotel is over 100 years hold however it is cleaned on a daily basis. We are more that happy to try and rectify a problem should one occur.

I would hope that most good hotels would have pest detectors especially if like you say you brought in a crib yourself rather than using one provided by the hotel as you are likely to increase the risk of bringing something in.

We hope that you find something more to your liking in the future.
