I will try not to be negative but it is very hard so will tell it as it happened. Paid for entry, were met by the son of the current Laird and shown the servants quarters which contains information about the MacDougals and the servants which was interesting. Then went to see the castle to find the path blocked. So went back and was told that due to the muddy conditions of the path and the chances of slipping it was closed! Now note this is well after we paid at the ticket booth, were shown the servants quarters by a member of the family and watched as we walked off around the house on the way to the castle... We queried if there was an alternate route to the castle and told that was in worse condition and not used. I further asked if there was a problem with the castle area itself and told no it was only the path up to the castle. Now consdering that the castle has been open for a number of years I would have thought that this issue would have been encountered in the past and corrected - but obviously not! Bottom line check before you pay to understand what you will be able to see.
