“WOW to the Turret Room!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

We had the opportunity to be in Oban in October 2013 and chose to stay at Greystones. There are many B&B accommodations in Oban but we chose Greystones due to the wonderful reviews that were posted on Trip Advisor. The Turret room room was recommended and so we went for it. WOW, WOW, WOW is all we have to say. When we arrived we were graciously greeted by Mark and Suzanne the owners who checked us in. We had seen pictures online of this room and you always wonder how true the room is to the photos but in this case it exceeded our expectations. The room is filled with comfort and luxury. The panoramic views of Oban from the room are incredible and the bathroom OVERSIZED and opulent. The breakfast menu also fabulous! All we can say is you simply MUST stay here! Thank you Mark and Suzanne.

Room Tip: Go for the Turret room as it is so worth it.

Greystones combines the best qualities of a hotel and a B&B. Suzanne and Mark have taken great care in decorating Greystones. You can tell that every light fixture, chair, window covering etc. was chosen with great care. The result is a very pleasing zen-like atmosphere that encourages you to relax and enjoy the astounding view.

Everything about the place is immaculate. We stayed in the turret suite, which is easily the most beautiful room I have ever stayed in. Had it rained all day, I would have been happy to sit by the window with a book and watch the boats. What an incredible view! The bed was fabulously comfortable and the room was perfectly quiet. Breakfast is made to order and is delicious and plentiful. It turns out that whiskey in porridge is very tasty!

Although you might think that the slate grey floor in the bathroom would be cold, it had underfloor radiant heat, making it warm and toasty. I am generally a shower person, but I had to try out the gorgeous bathtub. I want one of these. Even a very tall person could fit in this tub without having exposed knees.

Apart from the B&B itself, we really enjoyed exploring Oban and surrounding areas. We arrived by train and were easily able to walk to Greystones and back to the ferry and all over town. Our stay in Oban was enjoyable and memorable. I hope we have a chance to go back and stay at Greystones again.

Room Tip: I think they're all wonderful, but the turret suite is truly amazing.

The only thing more charming and gracious than this beautiful old house is the innkeepers running it. They really went the extra mile to make us comfortable, even serving breakfast nearly an hour early so that we would be in time to catch our flight.

Our room was really extraordinary. Huge, with beautiful views and the biggest bathroom I've ever seen in the UK! Everything was immaculately finished but also understated and elegant. After ten days of rushing around London and Edinburgh, Greystones was like a wonderful warm cocoon that were truly sad to leave.

Our only regret is that we could only stay one night. We will be back!

Room Tip: All the rooms face the bay, as far as I can tell, so they should all be good

We stayed for two nights in June as part of a quick trip up the west coast and it was the highlight of our trip. The building is an impressive from the outside with its turrets and commanding position above the town, but even more so inside. The room we had was beautifully decorated, light and airy with a spectacular view out over the bay to Mull, a huge incredibly comfortable bed and an enormous bathroom complete with modern walkthrough shower and a tub for a good old soak. I could quite happily have spent the whole stay sitting in the comfy arm chairs at the bay window watching the ships coming and going from the harbour and the light changing in the sky, but we did venture out. The B&B is 2 minutes walk from the centre of town (down a fairly steep road), so a good base for exploring Oban, or just for heading out for an evening meal.
Breakfast in the morning was generous and tasty, the full Scottish is highly recommended.
Its not the cheapest place to stay but its worth every penny, its a very special place. If you have the chance to stay there, do it.

We unfortunately could only stay one night. It is easy to find and has of street parking. What a fantastic place. The building from the outside is very grand and can be seen from the town centre proudly perched on hill. The interior and rooms are all decorated tastefully and to a very high standard. We stayed in room 5. The room was amazing, very spacious and had a bay window with stunning views over the bay .The bathroom was out of this world. The apricot, almond and honey porridge was delicious. Suzanne and Mark are very welcoming hosts and have created a real haven. I would highly recommend a stay here.

First of all, we arrived in the middle of the Wimbleton playoffs, so understandably we had to ring an extra time for our hosts to hear us. As the door opened we were greeted in an wonderfully bright and open vestibule by our equally bright and welcoming hosts. Restoring and updating Greystokes is an ongoing labour of love for the owners, Mark and Suzanne, who do everything themselves including the cleaning, gardening and preparing a delicious and nutritious breakfast.
The house is a relatively easy walk from the train and ferry; the last 100 metres or so are uphill but that means the views from Greystones are breathtaking. Our room on the main floor was large and spacious, beautifully appointed. After checking in we set off to explore and get our ferry tickets for the next days journey onward to Iona. We stopped at a pub by the water to watch the end of the tennis match; locals and tourists gathered for the excitement and we held our collective breaths as the match went on and then cheered like Scots when Andy Murray won. The people of Oban were so friendly and welcoming everywhere we went.
Back at Greystokes, sherry was available in the sitting room. We chose to return to our room to make a cup of tea and settle into chairs by the window to munch on biscuits and read before climbing into our big, comfy bed - the perfect end to a busy day. Our bathroom was beautiful, large and airy - great natural amenities were provided.

My wife and I stayed here on our trip to Scotland this September. We stayed in 4 different B&B's in 4 different cities. While all were very nice, Greystones sets the bar higher than any other B&B I've ever been to. The architecture, the open spaces, the layout, it's all first class. We stayed in the largest room, the turret suite and I can say this compares to any room in any 4-5 star hotel we've ever stayed in (of course this is much more laid back than those hotels).
The views from the west facing turret room were outstanding, looking over the town and onto the bay. We saw the most beautiful sunset the first night there. The bathroom is also very large and done so well, with a large tub for 2 and a walk through shower with a rain head.
The entire B&B is so tastefully decorated. It's very minimalistic with very unique touches everywhere.
The pooridge for breakfast was fantastic! So was everything else we had.
Mark and Suzanne were great hosts and wiling to help point you in the right direction each day if you needed it.
There is also a sitting room on the main floor for all the guests and they have sherry sitting out for anyone who wants it.
I really can't say enough about this B&B. It's that special! Anyone who stays here will be thoroughly impressed.
Thanks again to Mark and Suzanne for the best 3 nights we had on our trip to Scotland!

Room Tip: The Turret Suite is one fantastic room. If you splurge to get it, you will not be disappointed
