Greystones is not cheap, but it is a very elegant b&b with lovely rooms - both public and the bedrooms and very tastefully decorated. It is a short but steep walk down into the centre of Oban but the climb back up to Greystones is worth it - the views are fantastic.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view.

My wife and I stayed at Greystones last weekend. Mark and Suzanne offer what has to be the best place to stay in Oban. We were made to feel most welcome when we arrived.

The house is simply stunning. They have renovated the property in a very luxurious way without losing its history and original features.

We were in Room 1 and we just loved the decor. The room was a wonderful mix of high ceilings history and modern fixtures all rolled in to one. Wonderful fire place too! The bed was very comfortable with nice crisp white linen. The room was immaculate. There was a table and two chairs located in the large bay window that offered a tantalising glimpse of the sea between the roof tops down below.

The style continued in the breakfast room. High quality elegance. The breakfast at Greystones was simply awesome. Delicious way to start the day. Mark looked after us excellently at breakfast. He has a great sense of humour!

Mark and Suzanne have created a gem in Greystones. The house is stunning. It has been created with such style. We will definitely return.

If you want to stay in Oban you simply must stay at Greystones. It is worth booking well ahead to avoid disappointment.

A big, big thank you to Mark and Suzanne for ensuring we had a terrific stay at Greystones!

Room Tip: Book early to stay bat this magical place!

Mark and Suzanne have created a masterpiece in fine lodging. The sea view is stunning. Room number four was comfortable, quiet, and an oasis from the hustle and bustle of Oban. Breakfast was impeccably prepared and served with sublime grace and good humour by Mark. One of the highlights of our trip to the Highlands was the stay at Greystones and when we return there is no other place that we would consider staying.

Room Tip: We had number four and it was all that we could hope for.

Suzanne and Mark made us most welcome at their imposing home - that's what it is: we felt very much at home and everything was just perfect. If you are staying in Oban, you must check Greystones out first, and if it is fully booked, change your dates and not your place to stay. The décor is superb, the fixtures and fittings first class, food excellent, and there's even a decanter of sherry in the residents' lounge for a quick one before you go out in the evening. It is close to the town with an invigorating (!) short walk up from the main street and harbour. We have stayed in a number of B&B's, all fairly upmarket, but I have yet to find one which matches Greystones. Superb.

Room Tip: We weren't in the turret room which people seem to like, but our room was excellent - I'm su...

My wife and I stayed at Greystones recently, on a trip to Oban to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary (we were married in Oban as well). Having stayed at the proprietors' last Inn (Dun Na Mara, located just outside Oban), we had high expectations. The reality was even more magical than we could have hoped. Greystones is at once elegant and cool, modern and classic, traditional and efficient; a testament to the style and refinement of the McPhillips (who own and run the inn). The rooms are soothing and accessible, the shared areas are inviting, and the views from virtually all rooms are spectacular. And the breakfasts...oh my. I still can taste the whisky sauce on the morning porridge. Sitting in the Turret Room, sipping a wee dram of the local whisky (Oban, of course), and watching a thunderstorm roll across Oban bay is a feeling we won't soon forget, and a memory that doesn't seem to dull. Greystones and the McPhillips deserve all their success. We can't recommend this place enough.

Room Tip: Ask for "The Turret Room" for an amazing treat, but plan early; I'm sure this one goes...

What can we say? The Turret Rom is quite possibly the best B&B room we have ever experienced. Simply decorated, the room is the star of the show. The five windowed turret offers up unrivalled views of the bay, the harbour and the town......on a sunny day, the view was nothing short of breathtaking.
Mark and Suzanne will interact as much or as little as you wish. Very professional, but at the same time, very friendly.
Breakfast was supremely organised, and didn't disappoint (including some less common options such as kedgeree).
This isn't your typical holiday B&B experience, so don't expect a rosy cheeked holiday landlady welcome, because this isn't on the agenda at all. Instead, just revel in one of the towns finest Victorian homes, and bask in the knowledge that when it comes to Oban, no-one anywhere in the town is experiencing views as fine as yours.
Oh......the bathroom.....another wow factor......it is h-u-g-e! Perhaps more importantly, (just like everything else about this B&B), it was immaculately clean and fresh.
Greystones is memorable for all the right reasons. A fabulous two nights for us earns four highly enthusiastic thumbs up.

Room Tip: If you can afford that little bit extra, choose the turret room. Just a delight.

If you're thinking of staying here, look on the Greystones website and believe everything you read, nothing has been exaggerated or enhanced. The owners, Mark and Suzanne, have taken the humble b&b and transported it to a level so far removed from every other establishment it's in a super-class of its own. If you can't afford the price tag, steal money from your children and check yourself in, you'll be glad you did. We left there with a genuine affection for the place, how often can you say that?
