“Beautiful Scottish hospitality”
Reviewed 6 August 2014 via mobile

Warmly welcomed by Sarah. Lovely room, comfortable bed in a grand old house with beautiful cornicing, unfortunately a full house so had a room at rear without fantastic views of oban bay but didn't detract from our enjoyment. Breakfast 5 star, lots to choose from, had Highland breakfast 2 mornings, cooked 2 perfection with the most delicious local ingredients, I especially loved the black pudding. Situated on a hill but managed it fairly well after a few drams. Restaurant recommendations from Sarah we found to be perfect & probably wouldn't have tried otherwise. Would definitely recommend to friends & stay here again if I'm lucky enough to visit Oban again.

We were fortunate to stay in room 3 and had a brilliant view of the bay and great windows to open up to breathe in some of the fresh air! Sarah was outstanding and was always available to shed some information on local points of interest. The breakfast was nothing short of excellent! We have been visiting the UK for the past 3 weeks and staying predominantly in B&B's or Guest Houses and I would have no hesitation in recommending the Roseneath Guest House!

First of all Oban Scotland is one of the most charming towns I've ever been to...and that's saying plenty. Roseneath is nestled up on the hill overlooking the town of Oban and is a lovingly cared for guest house. We were greeted by Sarah and even though we were several hours early she stowed our bags for us so that we could get started on enjoying this beautiful little Scottish town. When we came back later we were so delighted to discover that we had a room in the front of the house, so we had a great view of Oban Harbor and a lovely sitting room that was perfect for curling up in a cozy chair and just gazing out the window at a postcard worthy view. The room was very spacious and had a nice bathroom (ie. good shower). Sarah was a most accomodating host....our first morning we were headed out to Mull for the day so she packed us a breakfast/lunch bag and had it waiting for us early in the morn. Our second morning we got to take advantage of Sarah's fine cooking skills with a full hot breakfast with many options to choose from. Roseneath is comfortable, welcoming and very clean (as evidenced by Sarah's affinity for her new Hoover, which she lovingly calls Darth Vader!) The McCaig's Tower is a short walk up the hill from Roseneath and well worth the walk. The town is only a 5-10 minute walk which makes this a terrific location. There are not enough adjectives to describe how much I loved Roseneath! Thanks Sarah!

Room Tip: Request a room in the front for an unbelievable view of Oban Harbor.

For the price the location is excellent. Try for front rooms with a view. Good wifi, free parking , short walk to restaurants and ferry. Good place from which to take a day trip to Staffa island via Mull and Iona.

The 3 nights spent at the Roseneath were a pleasant stay. Sarah, our host, was most welcoming and gave us helpful advice on trips to the islands and local points of interest as well as restaurants. Breakfast was well presented including delicious blueberry pancakes with fruit as well as porridge and a full Scottish breakfast. Our room was at the back and a little small but other rooms were quite large and at the front with a good view and would advise people to try to get a "Room with a View".

Room Tip: Room size and quality vary, so try to secure the better rooms.

Spent two nights here with my adult daughter, who had organised this B & B as part of an island hopping trip to see Lunga, Staffa, Mull & Iona. The accomodation is clean, comfortable and our room had an en suite bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities and a tv. Sarah, the owner was friendly, chatty and provided a packed breakfast for our first morning as we were out early to catch the ferry. The cooked breakfast on day two was very good too. The B & B is within easy walking distance of the town centre and harbour, but is on a hill which might not suit those with walking issues. It is also within easy walking reach of McCaig's Tower, well worth a quick visit for fabulous views of the harbour. Off street private parking is also available. The only downside which we experienced was a lack of hot water for a bath or shower in the evenings but was plentiful in the mornings ! Overall a great choice for ferry access and peaceful nights.
