The best thing at this old borders house is the fine 17th century ceiling in a room upstairs. It is beautifully painted and a rare example of such a ceiling. The house has a number of exhibitions in different rooms, rather variable in quality but still interesting. It currently has a WW1 exhibition with a reconstruction of a trench and panels about the contribution of the people of Galashiels. The whole place has a very civic feel about it being run by the borders regional council. Worth a visit for sure if you have a spare hour in Galashiels and interested in local history.
