“Walking Group Weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

From Friday 1st to Monday 4th. August. Our walking group had a very kind and warm reception at the Kingsknowes. This was to be expected as Friends and ourselves had been before
and the fine food and friendly staff had not changed. The rooms are comfortable although no room wifi but wifi is free in the cocktail bar area. This is a grand building which has been tastefully cared for.
All of our group were of the same opinion. An excellent choice.
Anyone thinking of staying in the Borders would find this a very good centre.

Lovely spacious room with beautiful views over the river. Excellent service from all staff. They were so helpful especially when seeing us dinner. We decided to eat in the beautiful garden due to the heat and nothing was too much trouble for the waitress. Dogs made very welcome. A lovely stay all round!

Went for lunch enroute to scotts view. The building was very impressive, beautiful from the outside. Surroundings were lovely. Diningroom was small but nicely decorated. Staff were very polite and friendly. Food was realy well presented and tasty. Will definately be back.

The house is amazing, it looks just like the pictures on here.

The grounds were large and spacious, not much in the way of decorations but it did not lack for that! There was a small play area for children up to 10 years of age.

Breakfast was good, sit down restaurant style with juice on a buffet table, choice was limited but good. Dinner was in the pub to the side, although they did have private rooms for larger groups. Food was very decent, a kind of cross between pub food and restaurant food in quality but that was exactly what I was looking for!

We had a suite on the first floor, noise was not a problem despite the proximity to reception, the room was huge! Absolutely massive. We had a side room that was made out with two single beds for our children and a bathroom that had a large bath tub, shower (with both a head piece and 8 side sprays), bidet and toilet.

There were some problems...

1. To get to the bathroom you had to walk through the side room
2. Despite being a large bathroom there was very little room between the toilet and the wall
3. FLIES!!! The hotel was obviously old and as such its windows were not very good and due to its location flies and other insects were a problem.

We left the light on all night on our first night there and when I went into the bathroom in the morning there was so many flies I was unable to use the toilet. The cleaners cleaned the bathroom, we shut the blinds and made sure we only had the light on when in the bathroom and problem solved.

4. HEAT! If you have a problem sleeping in 25c heat then this is not the hotel for you, we were there during the summer and it was a warm day, the inside of the house heated up to outside temperatures during the day and then during the night it stayed that hot. You could not open the windows due to the fly problem and there was no air conditioning.

5. No wifi, the year is 2014, every hotel should have wifi by now, even if you have to pay for it. But this hotel did not.

If this hotel could instal wifi, new windows and air conditioning then I would give it an easy 5 stars, but as it is I can only give it 3.

A good experience. Friendly staff, clean rooms and reasonable food ( I only ate breakfast there). Nice and quiet and the bed was comfortable enabling a good nights sleep! View from my room was fantastic and shower powerful, despite being on the second floor. I will return if in the area again.

Wonderful stay. Very attentive and serviceminded staff. Food was great, the risotto with the salmon is the best I have had this summer. Large room and very clean. All in all a wonderful stay and we would love to stay again.

Room Tip: The suite - the Scott room - is a wonderful room, it is very large and have a twin bedroom for child...
