“Good pub grub.”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

Booked table for the Sunday carvery very last minute. Good food - service was excellent - waitresses always checking to see if everything alright and if we needed anything - especially when we had a 2 year old with us. Good atmosphere in the bar. Overall a really good pub, serving good pub grub. Will b back to try out bar and a la carte menus.

“BRILLIANT”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

Ok, so let's ignore the other two comments, obviously made by a competitor. We booked a table for 10 for my sons 21st birthday, went there in the afternoon to take balloons and a cake there and the bar service was 1st class (beer is cheaper than my local).
When we arrived for the meal the waitresses were great, got table service in the bar for our drinks. All the food was excellent, wine was chilled on the table and at the end of the evening the Chef came out to make sure everything was good.
Would I go back....OH YES!!

“Another shambles”
Reviewed 11 November 2013 via mobile

We had been wanting to give the Thorterdykes a visit since it's re-opening under the new ownership and booked a table for 5.30 on a Saturday evening. Although this was a bit of an early dining time, this was apparently the latest that you can reserve a table. On our arrival we entered the dining lounge. Some guy was standing at the bar trying to catch the barmaids attention. The adjoining bar appeared to be pretty busy with locals enjoying a drink and the barmaid appeared to have it all to do. The dining room had about 20 people either standing about chatting and others seated at tables, none of the tables were set. The barmaid invited me to take a seat at an available table and someone would see to us. It all appeared to be very bizarre with several people sitting at tables, none of them being waited on. After about ten mins, we left as it was obvious that no one was going to be served anytime soon. On this occasion, this was a terrible experience with no customer care, lack of direction and no front of house visible. We were so wanting this to be a decent experience but this was an awful experience. This is the second review of the Thorterdykes, with the previous critique offering a similar experience. I would urge the management to respond to our experiences and offer comments on how things are going to improve
