“Haste ye back......”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2010

We found the Townhouse on Tripadvisor. The reviews were good and we were heading out into the Borders taking in Melrose and Peebles for a weekend away from the city. We called ahead and booked one superior double room for the following night.
We had been told that there was no parking at the hotel – only limited on-street parking but the owner informed us of available parking at their neighbouring hotel (across the street).
Check-in was fast and efficient – it’s a small hotel and feels more like a large grand house. At 3 stars we had expected it to be a ‘local’ guest house of good standards but we weren’t expecting our room to be so large, plush and modern. The elegant decor was more in keeping with 5 star Malmaison and the large bathroom had a large shower and huge corner bath.
We ate in the hotel that evening as the weather was terrible and, as we were (initially) the only diners, we were seated in the bay window with a view onto the Friday night comings-and-goings of village life in Melrose. However, this took second place to the excellent food. Mouth-watering and filling it was comparable to the best restaurants the city has to offer.
The bed was comfy and the room was very quiet. Breakfast was also very good – full Scottish of course – and we set off for Peebles (in the falling snow) with full stomachs, happy memories and the knowledge that we’d definitely be back......

We stayed at the Townhouse for our 6th time this year. As we were taking the whole family they were able to accommodate us in their large family room which was fantastic. For the first time in any hotel I have stayed in they had 5 sets of towels, 5 waters, 5 glassess etc. Most places never give you more than 2 sets never mind how many people there are. This place is a complete exception. The room was fantastic, comfortable and cozy. The breakfast was again fantastic, the best meal of our day. The staff are so nice and welcomming we feel like we are back at home. They have a lovely restaurant of their own but there are plenty of others and bars all within a walking distance.

If you are visiting the borders definatly head for Melrose and also the Townhouse - a real hidden gem

Excellent room, food and staff made this a pleasurable stay.
My first time here but not the last, a beautifull hotel in a lovely part of the country ideal for a base in the borders for sightseeing etc

We had planned to stay one night at the Townhouse Hotel in Melrose in the Scottish Borders. We ended up staying three nights and would have stayed even longer but for the need to catch a flight back home.
The Townhouse Hotel is run by a delightful family and staff who will go out of their way to help you.
Our room was modern and comfortable, with flat screen HD television, hi-tech shower and a bed with a firm mattress assuring a good night's sleep.
The food was especially good, well prepared and based on local high quality raw materials. After fuelling up on the hotels's full Scottish breakfast we had enough energy for a whole day of sightseeing.
The room had a generous supply of complimentary refreshments - coffee, tea, biscuits and bottled spring water. Equally good was the written information provided in the form of up-to-date guide books and pamphlets.

I agree with previous comments about the arrogant unhelpful owner and staff. We were cycling from Tynemouth and got injured badly and had to abandon the holiday. You wouold assume that with enough notice and on compassionate grounds the owner would have allowed us to cancel and not charged us as we could get no further after Berwick Upon Tweed. Sadly he was arrogant and cold on the phone and then proceeded to chrage us for the room which we couldnt use. Let this be a warning to EVERYBODY.

In Melrose for two nights for a charity walk. The rooms were huge with very comfortable beds and good bathrooms. Easy check in and our request for two sets of room keys and a cooked breakfast an hour earlier than the normal start time was arranged without a problem which was great. Only ate breakfast here but it was delicious. A great experience and nice to know that a family run hotel can still outdo the big name brands!

Just returned from a trip throuigh Border country stunning) and stayed at the Townhouse Hotel which quite honestly was the best hotel I have found in ages! We booked a superior room (number 7) and were amazed at the amount of space we had. Everything was really clean and although the toilets on the ground floor could do with being updated, they were clean.
Melrose is a lovely market town with good shops and strikes me as a seriously "foodie" kind of place. We ate at the Townhouse which was nice but didn't blow us away. We were told the local brasserie and the italian restaurant are both superb so we will head there next time. Excellent coffee/wine/cheese shop at the top of the market place which we would definitely recommend - lovely people too.
You won't be disapoiinted when vsiiting Melrose or The Townhouse.
