Burts Melrose is a must if you are in the borders of Scotland!
The bar meals are great value. Loved it. If you want fine dining, the owner of Burts owns
The town house opposite also. More expensive but well worth it.
Melrose is a very attractive Border town , Burts Hotel is in the centre with parking at the back
Of the building.

On a wet and dreary Sunday Morning attempted to get a coffee at this renowned establishment only to be turned away with the words "we are closed until 12:00 for lunch". It seems a great pity that at the height of the tourist season a simple coffee is not available at Melrose's prime site. It has to be pointed out the reception was polite. It was mentioned that less salubrious establishments not only served excellent coffee but welcomed us with open arms.

We've always liked Burt's. In fact we liked it so much we decided to get married here four years ago. One of its main attractions was the quality of the food. On a return visit this week we stopped off for a bar meal and I'm pleased to report the food was as good as ever. I had salmon with chorizo and my wife had roast cod with crayfish sauce. Every element was perfectly cooked and so tasty. To cap it all a beautiful cheesecake dessert had us drooling. A different class of pub food for sure. It might be advisable to book as it can get very busy and rightly so. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

Burts Hotel is worth staying for the breakfast, excellent dining experience. The rooms are small, clean and have everything you need, the mattress quality is average. Ask reception staff what you want to know, as they may not give you the information you generally get at other accommodation services. Remember to suggest the cleaning staff to update their uniform, they wear a dress so outdated I felt embarrassed for them.

Although we stayed over the road at the sister (or perhaps I mean brother) Hotel - the Town House we dined over two nights as small group at Burts.

Our first night was in the lovely dinning room, where we enjoyed selection from the restaurant menu. All dishes were perfectly formed, delicious, served stylishly and with just the right warmth and friendliness of service.

I do love good food and all too often am somewhat disappointed by food and also service - but not here. I enjoyed a scallop and lobster starter, succulent guinea fowl and a beautifully plated rhubarb creme brulee dessert. Stunning. And fantastic value. We will be back.

We also enjoyed a lovely wine from the selection. A lovely evening was had as we adjourned to the bar and tried a few selected whiskies and just a short stroll across the road for our beds.

The 2nd night was a bar meal, with some more lovely selections though I couldn't manage dessert. We had a last minute increase in numbers which was accommodated with no fuss as best possible. The owner/manager could simply not have done enough and was a charming 'host' throughout our evenings there.

We recently stayed here for the Melrose Sevens Rugby tournament. We received a warm and efficient welcome. Our room facilities were clean and comfortable. The hotel reception, bar, restaurant and lounge were all decorated to a high standard and we warm and cosy ambiance. Food at breakfast and dinner was excellent with plenty of choice and service friendly and efficient. My friends have been going there for the past 6 years and always book for the following year before leaving.
