“Good Value in Lovely Melrose”
Reviewed 6 July 2012

I have stayed at the Kings Arms Hotel 3 times on cycling trips in the Scottish Borders most recently in July 2012 when it was obvious that time and money had been spent upgrading the premises since my last visit. The hotel is in the centre of Melrose, a charming little town. The room was comfortable although the bathroom was a little small - but at least it had a bath with shower. Our evening meal was delicious and breakfast generous and tasty. Bike storage was not a problem.

We visited this hotel for a quick lunch and were not disappointed. £6.50 for good quality two courses was excellent value for money and we would definitely return if they keep this offer going. Pity about the dull interior but the friendly staff and open fire was very welcoming.

Room Tip: In the centre of the village with good accessibility to shops, rugby club, walks etc

We didn't stay, but had a lovely meal (seems to be doing a special steak night on a Tuesday -which included a soft drink or glass of wine). The place was packed and rightly so, great food. Pity about the abrupt (almost to the point of rude) blond waitress, but all the other staff were helpful and friendly. Would recommend the great food and be back for another visit.

I don’t think the hotel governor here believes in websites, great chef but he should wake up, and quickly, updating his photographs and what he offers to his quests, great service and a family friendly atmosphere from brilliant staff.
High street, town centre small hotel in a lovely little town, rooms do vary here, it is a large pub / small hotel, they have some great family rooms some 3 bedroomed suites, tired in some areas but made up by great service and friendly staff. Evening meal was great, packed out for dinner, much much better than expected by looking at the place, asked what time we wanted breakfast, all you can eat and more. If b4 we stayed it we were told the stay would cost £135 (£75 plus meal and all wine & drinks) we would have stayed somewhere else, but we are so happy we didn’t. Would we stay again, if we were in town yes, but we would stay in Country house hotel first or other 2 recommendations in town first, The Townhouse or Burts Hotel, which belong to the same family. But we would be comparing them to the Kings Arms and maybe wishing we were back. Great for a nights stay, we will be back someday.

Room Tip: They have so many that are all so different, family, friends and groups can all stay in their own wi...

Like home from home but with fabulous food. All the staff couldn't do enough for us. Very clean and comfortable bedrooms. Perfectly central for walks around Melrose. Can't recommend it enough.
