“Lovely hotel”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

Lovely big room with views over the gardens and a large clean bathroom. Friendly, efficient staff in the hotel and the restaurant where good food was served at a reasonable price. Felt that the menu was a bit basic, but overall a fantastic stay. Definitely one to go back to.

we stayed here for one night and wished we could have stayed longer. We are planning a return visit for longer next time. The hotel staff are very welcoming helpful and friendly. We had a turret room and it was spacious spotlessly clean and fantastic views over Venlaw woods and Peebles. Bed was very comfy and room was so quiet. We enjoyed sitting in the library room/bar which was very cosy and comfortable. We booked for dinner bed and breakfast. Dinner was beautifully cooked well presented and served by two lovely waitresses. The portions were just right - not too big and not too small but we just couldn't manage a dessert. Breakfast was good too and we loved the homemade jams and preserves. We will be back :)

Room Tip: we stayed in a turret room which had one double bed and two single beds - this would be ideal for a...

Thanks to everyone involved with making such a spectacular location to enjoy. The staff were all superb. The castle atmospheric and stunning, far removed from bland, excellent. I really appreciated the décor and individuality of the bar, dining rooms and hotel.
The food and wine was very good and excellent value in special surroundings.
Lovely breakfast with great home made preserves and much enjoyed coffee.
The bedroom was very welcoming, clean and comfortable.
Views much enjoyed, close to Peebles with a special atmosphere of it's own .

I had one night at the hotel but due to anti-social activity (mine not theirs) I was not able to eat in the restaurant which was a pity as the menu looked really inviting. The hotel is within the town limits of Peebles but feels as if it is completely rural. The welcome was warm, the room and bed comfortable and perfectly adequate for an overnight stay.

I needed to leave very early in the morning to go deer stalking and the receptionist was very accommodating in showing me how to escape without triggering all the alarms.

Not much more to say other than I would be happy to stay here again but would hope to be able to get into the restaurant next time. There are better hotels in Peebles but not in the price bracket of this particular booking.

We stayed at Venlaw for a two night break whilst attending a wedding. Loved the location, ambience and all over feel of the place. The staff are quite simply superb; so attentive, friendly and eager to make you feel at home. We booked a classic room which I felt was a little small and compact (still comfy, well equipped and clean-just a wee bit snug) but that was my (wrong!) choice. The superior and executive rooms would have been better and, had I looked further, I'd have picked one of those. Dinner was excellent and we opted to eat in the bar area rather than the main restaurant purely because we had a nice table and view already-this was fine with the staff. Service was efficient, not rushed and perfect. Again the staff were amazing (can I say that enough??!) Breakfast on both mornings was lovely too; plentiful, tasty and filling. Can't fault this place and I look forward to having another reason to visit again soon. My advice? Book now.

Room Tip: Go for a superior or executive room to make sure you have space to relax even more than normal :0)

My partner booked the hotel as a surprise for me and she found a real cracking place for us to stay. The room was huge and very comfortable. The bathroom was massive and it had a huge tub! The bar and restaurant were superb! I had one of the best meals I've ever eaten in a restaurant and it was rounded off with excellent service. The grounds were complimented by fantastic weather, a lovely outdoor area with views to please everybody! I will stay there again, I reckon Christmas would be amazing at Castle Venlaw!
