We stayed for one night in August and were pleasantly surprised at how good value this room was compared to others in the area. We didn't spend too much time at the hotel for our stay and can't comment on the food as we ate out and left too early for breakfast, but did enjoy the old fashioned bar area late at night where we were able to relax with a drink. All in all a pleasant stay for the money.

Room Tip: We had a third floor room which is a trek as there isn't a lift. Also, as it was windy my partn...

Hi grubs77! Thank you for your review. Good to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Apologies that we don't have a lift, I'm afraid with the age and design of the interior of the building, it won't allow for one. Yes, during stormy weather the top floor can be a tad noisy - apologies for this. We do try to minimize noise levels as best we can with window draft excluders, however on this occasion they too seem to have been rattling - sorry! We do look forward to seeing you again, hopefully when the wind and rain are not positively rattling around the building. Kind regards, L Curry

We stayed for one night in a superior room on a dinner , bed & breakfast basis & we absolutely adored everything about the hotel. The warm, friendly welcome, the size/ cleanliness/ standard of our room, the beautiful ensuite & the fantastic massive hand carved wooden bed. Tea, coffee, biscuits & water provided.
The food was lovely & again served by very friendly, charming staff, had to go for a walk after dinner as we were so full up! Spent a very comfortable night & when we managed to dig ourselves out of that bed in the morning, had a great breakfast.
We stay in hotels a lot & have to say this was by far our best experience to date, will return soon.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 8, Glengoyne & it was very impressive.

Castle Venlaw hotel is very nicely perched above the border town of Peebles and the rooms have great views over the surrounding countryside , we booked for a one night stay with dinner bed and breakfast and were very impressed with the hotel and the staff .
We stayed in room number 8 (Glengoyne) and it was lovely , a big and bright room very nice.Dinner was really good and so was the beer , and the staff very friendly and down to earth.
breakfast was great as well , I particularly enjoyed the home made jams and preserves on offer .
All in all a great stay recommended to all.

Room Tip: rooms on the second floor or above afford commanding views of the countryside.

We had a superb two weeks. Relaxing, peaceful, a second home. The turret room was comfortable, warm and very well appointed. Picturesque triple aspect tree-top views, four poster bed was a treat. Bigger space than many hotel suites!!! Lovely to have a full sized bath AND a shower/loo in their own spaces. YES.....the alarms are sensitive to steamy showers, just like the notice tell you - so glad it wasn't me :-)
Staff are good company, cheerful, helpful and caring professionals.Willing to go the extra mile. Great menu and food, quality breakfasts arrive in record time with a great pot of cofee. All areas spotlessly clean and decor is traditional, tasteful and with an amusing eye for quirky details (check out the room name plaques). Bar/Library stacked with books, borad games, DVD's and well stocked bar.
A lovely location with fantastic views and easy access to the bustling town of Peebles and routes to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Biggar etc. Also lots of out door activities close by, especially cycling - off road and cycle routes
What a find. Thanks you all for a great stay.
Look out : we will be back!

Room Tip: All rooms are airy and spacious. Turrets are extra special.

My wife and I stayed one night in the Glenkinchie room. This comfortable room had a four poster bed and a well appointed modern bathroom with walk in shower and also a another room with a bath. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere in Castle Venlaw is one of relaxed indulgence. The library bar and dining room areas are very relaxing and the food was excellent- one of the best steaks I have had in a long time. The weather was very warm during our stay and sitting on the seats on the lawn having a prosecco was most enjoyable. Some of the public areas are a wee bit tired decor wise, but this actually adds to the charm of the hotel.
All in all, a most enjoyable stay, at a very good price and we highly recommend you try it. We will certainly be back.

Our one night stay was thoroughly enjoyable. Older castle-type building has all the comforts of a modern hotel yet maintains beautiful traditional decor. Loved the deep wood panelling in the bar and dining room. Touches of quality like Tiffany lamps. Ultra-quiet sleep from the hillside location away from road noise. Saw a deer grazing down the garden. Room (Glenrothes) was very spacious. Dinner of chicken wrapped in bacon for one of us and salmon with shrimp tagliatelli for the other was very good, not a Master Chef creation with weird and wonderful unusual ingredient combinations, just good food. Spotlessly clean throughout. Genuine queen size bed (not one of those awful pushed-together twins) very comfortable with a light fluffy duvet. Everything worked fine - TV, Internet, lights, iron, shower. Staff friendly and helpful. Cannot fault anything.

Room Tip: No elevator, so maybe those who struggle with stairs would want a lower level room.

We stayed 3 nights in a superior room in this family owned and run small turreted castle dating from the late 18th century. We not only met the family and the hotel cats but felt part of the family, the service was so warm and friendly. The room was large, with large en suite shower and a separate bathroom both well and sympathetically rebated with all mod cons. Food was homely and traditional. Large portions rather than fine dining, but good quality. A pleasant stay at a reasonable price.
