We have been coming to this Hotel since the early '90s and since Kate and Gordon Innes took over it has gone from strength to strength. A traditional feel in a fascinating building with great staff who are welcoming and keen to make your stay as good as it can be. The rooms are being upgraded to a very high standard and the Adams Room (original Adams fireplace) makes a memorable dining experience. We married from here three years ago and, more recently, made our fourth visit in seven months so that says it all really! Peebles town is a delightful place and all the people are so very welcoming - there are a lot of smiling faces around so you can't help but get a lift! Beautiful scenery. Can't recommend this unique hotel highly enough - just try it and you will see what I mean!

A little it late, but I didn't realise The Tontine was on Trip Advisor! We had our wedding reception at the Tontine in July 2010. As we are local, we have come to the Tontine since moving to the Scottish Borders and decided we wanted a local wedding as much as possible. From the start, the dealings with Kate and Geoff was exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble and our day was geared to what we wanted, as opposed to what the hotel wanted. Having dealt with some of the other 4* hotels around the Peebles area leading to our decision to have our reception here, I have to say that the customer service provided by Kate and Geoff's team was amazing.

Apart from the wedding - which had rave reviews from all who attended regarding the superb standard of the food - all our subsequent meals at the Tontine (which averages one a month or more) has always been brilliant.

Based on personal experience, I would rate the Tontine as the top hotel in Peebles.

Room Tip: Room 4 was superb

The hotel is in a central location on the High Street in Peebles. It is clean, comfortable and the food is good. An excellent choice for visiting the borders region.

We enjoyed our stay and would maybe? Return but would have liked healthier food and not so many supplements for essential things like Veg at evening meals and Smoked haddock, and salmon at breakfast. Our superior room was nice but not superior

Room Tip: It depends what you want. Ours was Ok Room 12 but!

Thank you for comments regarding your stay at the Tontine. You will be happy to know that, as a result of your feedback, we have asked our head chef to ensure that all main course dishes are accompanied by sufficient vegetables or salad. We are aware of the need to balance healthy food options with popular staples such as Haddock & Chips etc and do strive to achieve this. In fact we have just introduced our spring into summer menu which includes seasonal salads such as poached salmon, ham & cheese and beef, all served with new potatoes.
We are currently in the process of updating our breakfast menu and will review the availability of healthy options on the menu. As a point of interest we already serve semi skimmed milk and promote locally sourced produce on all our menus via our 'local heros' branding - perhaps we should promote these products more. Once again, thank you for your constructive feedback and we do hope you will return to the Tontine in the near future.
Kind regards,
Kate & Gordon

Hotel is in the heart of the Borders, very convenient (23 miles) for Edinburgh - we took the bus, saving parking and the hassle of driving in an unknown city. Our room was excellent - lovely view of the Tweed. Food was excellent in both the main dining room and the bistro. Owners are upgrading rooms . Seems a favourite with locals, especially for morning coffee and afternoon tea. Hotel had won the Scottish Hotels 2011 award just before we arrived.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking Tweed have best view.

Having read some of the reviews about street noise when we made our booking we asked for a room at the rear of the hotel, check in was smooth and we were duly directed to our room at the rear,we went along a corridor into the annexe and our room was tucked right in the corner next to the stairwell (Room 31). We were pleased we asked for room at the rear, was definitely quiet, the room was spacious with a lovely river view, bathroom was good size with original enamel bath (very long) and great for a soak, also had overhead shower.
The bed was zipped to make a kingsize which was good but my the mattress was very firm...
We ate out on the evening because we were attending an event at the Eastgate centre & didn't want to be rushed but breakfast the next morning was excellent and served in the lovely Adams room.
If we returned to Peebles would stay here again, it is so central with lovely walks along the river and the staff are very polite & helpful

Room Tip: Ask for a room with river view..

We enjoyed a lovely 3 night stay at the Tontine Hotel. The public areas are very relaxing; snuggling up in a comfy sofa near the fire with a g&t was heaven. Our room was newly renovated and our only complaint was that it was so sparkly we felt guilty spoiling it by having a shower! The hotel is perfectly situated in the friendly and pretty town centre (and the bar of the hotel next door is also delightful if you can tear yourself away from the Tontine).
