My family and I stayed here for one night whilst attending a wedding nearby. Rooms were very comfortable and clean, the surrounding gardens are lovely and we had some good pictures taken in our wedding attire. The one thing that let this place down I would say would be the breakfast. Whilst the choice was adequate, there was no drinking water available to help yourself to, there was no fruit except for tinned grapefruit and the sausages that came with the cooked breakfast were the worst I've tasted. At £132 per night for B&B I expected better.

Dear Fiona B, Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear you had a comfortable stay and have some lovely photographs taken in the hotel gardens. We have noted your comments regarding breakfast and whilst the waiting staff served you your iced water at your table we will now place a jug of iced water on guests tables if requested, In addition to the tinned grapefruit we do have dried apricots, prunes, banana chips, sultanas and a fresh fruit basket with oranges, apples, plums, kiwi and grapes on the buffet table.

We have stayed at many hotels in the borders area and none are as good as this one. The hotel is run very well by the couple who own it and it is a relaxing atmosphere with excellent food and in great surroundings we simply would not stay anywhere else. The rooms are big and have comfortable beds with modern facilities (TV,etc). Car parking is safe and ensite. The hotel is very well maintained both inside and outside. The restaurant offers a great mixture of different types/sizes of food and the wines are good. I even have soya milk offered to me at breakfast time.

As frequent visitors to Best Western hotels we were disappointed with this one. The room and surroundings were lovely but the hotel lacked character. Even the log stoves were gas. The food was very expensive for what you got. We have had much better food at more reasonable prices elsewhere. The staff were slow to take orders. Wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: Room was lovely. Four poster bed, large bathroom, walk in wardrobe

Spent three enjoyable nights at the Philipburn. Good centre for browsing the Borders and great walking country. Hotel rather quiet but there was no reduction in service. Spoke to both the owners and their commitment, and that of their staff, to customers was clear. Public areas particularly attractive with a comfortable lounge area, the most extensive collection of current magazines and journals I have ever seen and fresh flowers throughout the hotel. Bedroom clean, comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was fine and the only downside was dinner which I didn’t feel came up to the high standard of the hotel.

What a fab find, this is our 10th visit to the UK, and without doubt this has been one of our best finds. This place is truly 1st class , the whole Hotel is a credit to the folks running it. The welcome was very friendly, the room was spotless as was the bathroom, lovely fluffy towels, nice and big as well.
The rest of the Hotel was just lovely and we were truly sorry to have to move on.

Room Tip: I would think every room would be of a high standard
