Rocked up here on Friday afternoon, good off road parking, staff friendly, room in line with the price- all agreeable. Had supper in the main restaurant, excellent and interesting pea and chilli soup followed by a rich fish pie (if a little over seasoned). Terrific nights sleep, breakfast fine but a bit over priced.
Second night was not so good, went to the Italian restaurant (which is part of the same establishment) next door- again very friendly welcome. Ordered Brucshetta with cherry tomatoes which was very ordinary- the bread wasn't really brucshetta and the garlic/basil flavours were absent; it was also very expensive. The lobster ravioli was the complete opposite- truly excellent! Dessert was a sticky toffee pudding which was dry and lacking sticky toffee to the extent the dish would have you believe. Wine choice was determined by what they had open (pinot was fine though); it all just felt a bit unprofessional.
The room which had offered such a good nights sleep the previous night didn't the second night, the sash window rattled all night in the wind and the crashing and banging from the adjacent rooms was almost thunderous.
It mainly offers good value, some of the menu options not so much, it's friendly and the team want to give a good service. Had I stayed just the first night this would be 4 stars, second night unearthed some flaws though sadly.More
