“OK for a pint, if in Town”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

Let's face it, having been derelict for a considerable time, this is an ideal stop - location wise - for a pint, when in Town.

Taken over by the Smith and Jones chain, it is now (as far as I'm aware) in administration. A recent auction failed to reach the reserve price.

This limbo situation is reflected in the menu, where many dishes are no longer available. The food too often is poor and service slow, although the staff members are friendly.

It's a large pub/restaurant and has a room at the rear where families with children can eat.

Hopefully, someone will take it over soon, and get things back on track

Booked in last minute, and never did my normal research - shame on me.
Yes it's in need of a refurb, even a coat of paint n some filler
But it's £45 with breakfast and it's very central. Staff were nice, beer was cheap and although we didn't eat the food looked ok.
It's handy enough and I would stay again.

Stayed here for a couple of nights little bit pricey for what we got. Far too many stairs up to the room. Needed light bulb also dripping tap was annoying. But the one saving grace was the breakfast ....

We were attending a function in Dumfries and decided to stay at the Queensberry due to the location however this turned out to be a very bad idea.

We checked in and was led up to our room. Upon walking into the room the smell of damp hit us.. There was a very big crack up the wall where water had evidently been leaking onto the bathroom door which had expanded and now didn't fit the door frame therefore didn't close.

The shower was leaking onto the bathroom floor which was filthy and soaking. The shower tray was disgusting and covered in hairs.

The whole room wasn't clean and we couldn't possibly stay in such a state.

I went down to reception to speak to the Manager however I was told she was too busy to speak to me(!) I requested a refund, which I got, and we checked out.

Booked this for 2 nights and we would have rather have slept in the car. Would have been quieter! To say its noisy is an understatement... The very sullen staff are unhelpful. Barely a grunt from our Easter European friend on the bar and for breakfasts.

We arrived 2 minutes too early for breakfast and you would have thought we had murdered someone by the look... "we are not open for 2 minutes" was grunted at us!

Strange smells and dubious fixings and then the room. First impressions is that it just needs a good clean!

Don't stay here! From 9 in the evening till 2 in the morning the night club bellows out from below, then every foul mouthed individual known to man practices using the "f" word over and over from the street below.

The fittings! Well basically all falling apart! Went for a shower in the morning and the thing just fell apart.

Nobody really interested when complained. Couldn't even be bothered to take away the dirty cups.

Look elsewhere - I implore you..... Have travelled 600 miles home to get a good night sleep.

A bed for the night of a family wedding in Dumfries was the reason for booking here. It has a good town centre location and the staff are all friendly but later on you realise that this is basically a very lively pub for the younger set, which happens to have bedrooms upstairs. If you are used to modern Premier Inn or Ibis accommodation it falls short, but for a basic clean room with a shower it's OK.
Breakfast was somewhat naff but enough to get the day started, but I actually quite enjoyed waiting for my bacon and egg whilst looking at the various carpets and wallcoverings in the eating area, none of which matched !! Needs a good refurb.

First impression of service by sullen girl who took check in was not good although other members of staff helpful and pleasant Large well used pub/restaurant Area leading to bedrooms a bit smelly in places Lots of areas need repair or paint Room small clean enough but shower door off and propped against wall Good central locatrion but unsurprisingly noisy later in evening Basic breakfast with smal choice of cereal adn only one jug of juice but cooked breakifast well cooked and tasty Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed

Room Tip: 11 quitea hike through a few doors and staircases to reach this room
