“Quiet, scenic & welcoming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

A great place to stay if you need to stop near Dumfries and want somewhere a lot more pleasant. We had the double room, spacious, comfortable and quiet. Kevin and Lynn very hospitable and friendly, great breakfast and Tree Sparrows in the garden. Excellent spot for birders visiting WWT Caerlaverock to spend a day or two. Lovely breakfast, plenty of fresh fruit.
Only drawback was needing to use a car to find somewhere for an evening meal. Otherwise top notch and recommended.

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and please remember to pre-arrange an evening meal with us if you prefer, should you decide to visit again. The nearest hotel is located in the adjoining village of Glencaple where most of our guests enjoy their evening meal as it is situated alongside the River Nith.

My wife booked this B&B on the hoof whilst touring in Scotland and what a great choice, location was ideal, hosts very polite and informative, the room was very clean with good pillows and a good bed, breakfast was 1st class and large enough I needed to skip lunch, if in the area again I would be more than happy to visit - 1st class B&B :-)

The welcome and on going hospitality provided by Lynn & Kevin makes it very difficult to leave this charming accommodation. The location makes it an ideal winter venue for birdwatchers with tens of thousands of migatory geese and wildfowl and a superb centre for exploring the Dumfries and Galloway region at any time of year.

Room Tip: The fitness centre and pool are a mistake that I am unable to erase (sorry about that) as they do no...

Hutton Lodge is a 19th century ex-school house at the hamlet of Bankend near the WWT Caerlaverock bird sanctuary on the Solway Firth, and a few miles south of Dumfries. It is a top class B&B in my opinion, and a credit to the friendly couple who run it. Good rooms, and good breakfasts in a pleasant dining room. I stayed three nights, and intend to come again some time.

Located in a beautiful, historic building that has been completely refurbished, this B&B is not to be missed! You can arrive as a stranger and leave as a friend. From the delightful grounds and entry to the lovely dining room (where a cooked-to-order breakfast is provided each morning) to the charming rooms and wonderful hosts, this B&B is truly a gem. It is small and managed to perfection. I will always stay with Kevin and Lynn when I am in the Dumfries area. They are wonderful and truly welcoming. They went out of the their way to make my visit thoroughly enjoyable. They suggested places I might like to see, helped with directions, and really provided stunningly kind assistance that one would never expect or even request of any B&B hosts. My stay with them was truly memorable, and I have stayed in lots of places. Plus, the October weather couldn't have been nicer!

We certainly appreciate your very generous review and we would like to think that your stay with us in Scotland was relaxing enough for you to feel at home, even though so far from California. Considering your extensive global travels, your comments are especially valued and we truly look forward to seeing you in our area again soon.

This B&B is in Bankend, a small village near Dumfries. It is on National Cycle route 7 and near to the Wildfowl & Wetland Trust reserve at Caerlaverock. The house is spotless and the rooms are great. More importantly, the hosts are welcoming and good company. You get woodpeckers on the bird feeders, which you can watch while eating your, excellent, breakfast. Great place for birdwatchers and cyclists but well placed for general tourism of this area of Dumfriesshire.

We only stayed one night and wished it could have been longer. Our room was very comfortable and well decorated. As we went with friends it was great to have the use of guest lounge after we had come back from our evening meal. The breakfast was very nice, plenty of options available and set us up for the day at WWTCaerlaverock site. Lynn and Kevin are great hosts and provide ample information on the surrounding area. Excellent value.
