This hotel was the old style hotel that served the railway travelers. The hotel is well placed in the centre of town yet easy to get to. Parking is plentyful but gets busy a peak times. The hotel staff are superb and very friendly. The food is reasonable and very well presented. I have no problems with this hotel and will definatly stay here again when in the area.

At first glance this hotel looks outdated......but it's not! The building is well over 100years old but the attitude is bang up-to-date. Greeted cheerfully at reception [at top of a flight of steps, we were informed that our cases would be taken to our room [ by a muscular and attractive young lady]. we had paid for a superior room with four-poster bed and a spa bath. The room was spacious and the adjoining bathroom had more room than in many a normal en-suite. Everywhere was clean and tidy and this applied also to the Restaurant, cosily situated in the basement area and surrounded by lucious plants in a small terrace garden outside. Our stay was three nights, and we wished it could have been more. Dumfries is well worth a visit and houses a small riverside museum featuring the time Burns spent living and working there. Surrounding areas including a nature reserve are easily accessible. We'll be back!

Beautiful, old fashioned hotel, which makes you feel like you are in a real HOTEL, and not a HOSTEL. Rooms bright and airy, and staff make you feel valued. Beautiful garden with a relaxing pond, full of birds tweeting and garden room just off courtyard to get out of the sun. Old school hospitality, decor makes you feel relaxed and at home.

We arrived in Dumfries during a heat wave and our rooms were quite warm, but upon request, the staff provided us with a fan to help keep the room cool. The rooms are spacious and with the large 4 poster beds, they have a nice style to them. The location is right across from the train station, which was very handy for us. The staff were always courteous and ready to assist anyway possible. Even with the train station across the road, we never heard the trains.
