“Wonderful staff, great event management and fabulous food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 January 2014

I visited Hetland Hall Hotel last weekend to attend the wedding of my cousin at Caerlaverock Church, the reception for which was hosted by the Hotel. I could not recommend the establishment more highly. The staff were all highly attentive, very, very hard-working (in particular the barman who was working last Friday Night!) and more than capable. The rooms were inviting and pleasant and the food was simply wonderful! 10 out of 10 for service and hospitality, my only regret is that in my previous visits to Dumfries & Galloway I failed to stay with you! We were resident on the Friday and Saturday night, my brother and I shared a room in the West wing of the Hotel whilst our parents had a room in the East wing. It is a truly wonderful place for such an event and the Breakfast was as good as i've ever had! Thank you all again for a wonderful stay and for making my cousin's wedding a highly enjoyable and happy event. See you soon!

Room Tip: The more modern rooms in the West Wing of the hotel may suit families better, as they were further a...

A beautiful country house in an idyllic setting overlooking stunning views. This place has plenty of period features with gorgeous open fires. The food was plentiful and tasty and every member of staff made us feel extremely welcome and at home. They were all second to none. We cannot fault this place in any way, shape or form. This is our third visit and we will be coming back next year with members of our family. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. As regards for value for money then you cannot ask for anything better. We hope all at Hetland Hall have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Alan & Linda Moore x

Just returned from a two night stay in the hotel with my parents. Both our rooms were very nice and in keeping with older house decor. The staff are very friendly and dinner on both nights was very tasty. The open log fires were fabulous to sit and relax by. A great wee break away. We will be back :-).

great family and homely hotel. terrific staff. food. rooms and views. lovely place to stay. not like many modern plastic hotels so has great character. breakfast terrific ( hint try the porridge ). bar very cosy even on the cold damp night with big blazing fire. A good bit out of town so a car is important.

Booked for my Anniversary with coach tour & after reading a few good reviews given on here decided to go ahead. Big mistake. Please read through all reviews as this hotel has some issues to sort out, mainly with the food.menu. We arrive approx. 5 pm after travel all day from 5am to sit down to a meal that can only be decribed as a joke. On offer was cottage pie or fish in pasley sauce or mushroom risotto. My hubands and l opted for the cottage pie as need something nourishing after such a long day.what did we get, my hubby got a plate of cold dried out pie with roast potato that was rock hard and must have been cooked either the day before or earlier in the day.My meal along with others on our table was same but luke warm. To add insult all the guesta were expected to eat this with no gravy. When requested gravy we were told by a very worried looking waiter chef did not include gravy on this menu. We insisted and finally it arrive 30 mins later( we timed it) by this time most on table who had order this pie had eaten this cold cooked meal as were so hungry and waiter placed gravy boats on to table of finished meals. Except my husband. He waited all this time and when asked for his meal to be reheated, the other waitress looked perplex. we found out later the table behind us had a worse experience of their pie being still frozen, requested the fish, which was unacceptable as well and request veg and got mostly carrots. After making a direct complaint to the chef this poor diner was told it was the waiting staffs fault. We were promised the weeks food would improve , not by the manager but by our coach driver, who seem to think it was a bit funny. Rest of week was luke warm food served on hot plates. Beef and lamb meat in later meals was very tough. Starter and deserts were very basic shop bought products that even my grandchild could have prepared. If a hotel cant even get a basic Cottage pie right l feel very sorry for future paying guests. l write reviews for other companies and cannot recommend this hotel as dinning room team has major problems to sort out, not with waiting staff but with the evening chef. Other guest on out table thought this was how all Scottish hotel were like as not been to Scotland before. One of his meals was shop bought fish served with barley cooked chips and carrots. We had to assure him it was not as we have traveled many times to Scotland and never had such a poor menu served to us before.

Dear Guest

I am really sorry that you did not enjoy the evening meals during your stay with us , especially as it was your anniversary. Our aim is for all of our guests to have a relaxing and enjoyable stay , and in your case we have obviously failed.

I must take issue though when you appear to be speaking for other guests , which I feel is very unfair ; as i hope our reviews show - and our feedback certainly does - the overwhelming response to our food is extremely positive . Especially as all food is cooked fresh on the premises.

You also point out that you arrived at 5.00pm after traveling all day from 5.00am ; I agree that this is a very long day , but I am afraid that this is nothing to do with the hotel and is not within our control..
