“good wedding venue”
Reviewed 25 September 2010

We held our wedding reception at this hotel recently, and overall very happy with the way it went. There was a good number of us and everyone commented on how nice the hotel, its gardens and their experience was. We arrived back from the ceremony held at Morton castle to pimms jugs, pitch and put on their golf course and then headed into our different themed afternoon wedding tea. We had hired crockery from an external source, fine china all in different styles with cake stands etc and the hotel staff were very accomodating with our requests. Some of the rooms are better than others but all of them are comfortable and generally clean. The main public areas are grand and again clean. The food we had in their lovely restaurant was simple as requested but executed well enough for everyone to be happy. Our evening reception was held in their function suite and with our own entertainer the evening was finished off with a bang.

As we both run a hotel ourself we can be a bit picky but to our surprise we could not fault the effort given

A very big thank you to everyone at the hotel for helping to make our day a great success

Hotel was great, lovely gardens, fantastic service and nothing too much trouble to ensure our break enjoyable. We enjoyed the food it was of a good standard and the service was good. The room was huge and had lovely views (Room 10) even when evening reception in full swing could not be heard from room. Breakfast was lovely. All in all I would go back and explore the area more.

Stayed for one night in a double en-suite room. Being kind I would say the room was "retro" but I think "dated" is the more appropriate word. Bed was comfortable enough which is the important thing when only using the room to sleep. However, there were several features which I was not keen on and would have taken up if our stay had been longer.
* Wallpaper peeling off in several areas
* TV placed on a table made out of an unsightly cheap wood and covered with a cloth
* Dead moth on windowsill and dead flies on ceiling (cleaning/dusting done???)
* Damp stains on the ceiling and walls
* Wood chipping away from furniture
* Asked reception to call room to confim pick-up time, they never did
* Items on cooked breakfasr menu not available

A good location and fine for somewhere to lay your head, but not a hotel to be enjoyed for its own features.

Just returned from this fabulous hotel after a five day stay. My reception was held here with the ceremony 4 miles away so there were around 50 of us at the hotel most of the time. Firstly all the staff are fabulous, Diane the owner is fantastic and has some brilliant staff who cant do enough to make you happy especially sean and ellie also lilly and the night porter (sorry cant remember your name) Food was excellent, lovely rooms most being spacious and all well mantained. Thanks guys for giving me and my new husband a day 2 remember, we wiil be back for our anniversary. x

I've been here a few times now with a tour group and it's always been very pleasant. This time was no exception, and it was nice to see that some refurbishment work has been done. Some of the rooms still need a makeover, although the whole place is clean and that's really what matters. It's a lovely old building and the majority of the public areas have been updated - the dining room looks much better than last year. It looks as if the grounds have had some attention too, as you can now use the pitch and putt course for the first time since I've been going there. Staff are very friendly, and although we were on the standard menu, the food was good quality and service was quick and consistent - bearing in mind there were 25 of us plus a wedding on one night, that's very good.
Free car park and wireless internet.

No doubt be back again next year....!

Didn't use the pool this year so don't know if that's been updated.

NB. Apparently it can get a bit noisy if you're above the function room ;-)

Firstly when booking some 9 months ago the staff were fantastic, very helpful and made sure everything was in place for when we arrived.
On arrival once again we welcomed by smiling faces . On entry a huge baronial staircase takes you to your rooms. 44 of us in total took over the whole hotel. Several of the rooms are very large with 4 posters . Some in the new part are smaller and need a bit of refreshing. It has wooden floors in the main house with a lovely bar area (Prices including Wine are reasonable) and in the hall a lovely log fire.
The restaurant area is very nice and the food was very good. also 44 of us got a choice of 3 Starters/Main and dessert and everything was served without a long wait and warm. There is of course an a la carte menu for smaller groups which looked good.
Once again the staff were great always smiling and nothing too much trouble.
There is a gym area which we did not use and a large Pitch & Putt area in front of the hotel. All in all we had a great weekend. If you are booking make sure you get you pay a little more for a better room.

The whole day from start to finish was absolutely fab , with both the staff and the food being fantastic!
