“Down to a tea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

I am currently staying at the hotel on business. I have filled out the guest questionnaire and feel so strongly about some of the negative comments on here, that I must leave a review. I, and the company I work for, stay here regularly at the moment as we opening a new store In the area. How anyone can say that this hotel is substandard is completely bizarre!!!! It is an old building so the floorboards are going to make a noise, if your room is above reception then you may here people coming back in the early hours!! People complaining about the room being too warm in summer, really, is this the fault of the staff !!! First time I stopped I was in a king size suite and dare I say it was too big !!! I'm currently in a double room which is the perfect size. Breakfast is a lovely buffet style however fruit and cereal are also available. The hotel has 2, yes 2, restaurants which are equally nice. There is a small bar but the hotel is surrounded by pubs if you prefer. As for the staff I have never met such lovely people and I work in retail !!!! I have been to a lot of hotels on business and this one far out ways any I have been in. Well done and don't listen to the negative, petty feedback that some people feel they need to leave. Suited me down to a tea x

Just back from a great weekend at this hotel. I took my mum got a wee weekend break and we both loved it, The staff were excellent and very helpful, the first room we were allocated was a wee bit far from the lift for my mum (but it was a lovely room) the second room we were given was on the ground floor and was excellent too. The cabaret night was great but there was a lot of stairs to access the function suite from the interior of the hotel so we walked back round the outside of the hotel. all in all it was a nice break with excellent food. Thanks to all staff, only complaint was that the bedroom was too warm so we had to keep the window open and there was a bit of noise from the road still you can't have everything!

I was delighted to hear how much your enjoyed your recent visit to our hotel for one of our Cabaret Weekends.
These weekends are particularly popular in the hotel and are arranged throughout the year.
Further information about our Cabaret Nights can be found on the hotel's website.

We had a voucher for a 2 night stay B&B and from the minute we left glasgow until we returned it rained, so we spent a bit of time at the hotel and we had nothing to complain about. From the start the staff were welcoming and accommodating, lending us a nice bucket and supply of ice. Our room was small but nice & well furnished with a new shower room. We ate in the hotel the first evening and it was very tasty home-cooked food, only the scotch broth was below par and the free wine was excellent Quality. We also spent sometime in the large lounge
and found it peaceful with a nice bay window in one corner, it obviously had had a recent makeover. The leisure facilities were good too, we made good use of the pool and sauna
We would return, and stay at the hotel again, it was good value and well situated

Booked three rooms for yearly trip away and went to. Abba tribute night. Had two year old granddaughter with us and staff were lovely with her especially Nichola at reception and Tom in restaurant. Meal was excellent and hotel spotless . Anything we asked for was attended to quickly. Was at 4 star macdonald hotel 4 weeks ago which wasn't,t a patch on this. Would definitely return. Great value for money. Jean glasgow

My husband and two children stayed here from 9-11 October.
It was an ok stay, nothing to rave about. The hotel has a dated feel to it. Needs fetching up to modern day.
The one thing we did notice was that the majority of staff were young and none of them ever smiled. Serving of dinner was like being waited on by a robot. Very odd.. Basic training in hospitality needs to be looked at.
We met and talked to the only member of staff that made us feel like guests and not intruders.. His name was Hassan.. (Deputy manager) They all need to take a leaf from his book... He was extremely helpful.. Warm and smiling.. We did mention to him about our thoughts regarding the young staff and he was very interested to hear it and said he would do something about it. It's free to smile.

I was interested to read your comments following your recent visit to the hotel.
I was aware of your conversation with Hassan and your suggestion that 'it's free to smile' is quite true.
A smile can be the difference between an "ok" stay and a "special" stay and your can be assured that we'll try even harder to get staff to interact with our customers and smile more in the future.

This hotel was booked on my behalf and after seeing the name thought i was in for a real treat.
The entrance was grand and looks very nice with a sweeping staircase in the lobby to the upper floors. The food wasn't that bad and the service seemed ok.
The single room i was given, now that's a different story.
How small does a room need to be before it gets called a cupboard?
The floorboards were beyond belief with the noises they made. The building is old so noisy boards are to be expected but these were so much more than that.
The night i stayed it was quite warm so i had the window open which was a bad move as the room was above the entrance so all the noise from the drunks coming in late was waking to say the least.
The bathroom was dated but the shower was ok.
I wasn't sad to leave and as for the 3 stars it claims......maybe it was an old sign.
No, i wouldn't return.

I would suggest that the throwaway heading probably says more about the reviewer than the hotel. Either way it is wholly inappropriate and in bad taste.
Our single rooms are booked by regular guests and we believe they are reasonably priced given their size.
We also offer double rooms for single occupancy although there is an additional charge. Many guests choose to pay a little extra for these larger rooms.
We are only too happy to try and allocate guests quieter rooms which are generally at the rear of the hotel.
As far as our star rating is concerned we have are regularly assessed by Visit Scotland and the AA ,and you're quite correct it is an old sign because it's been up a long time!

This hotel is large and very clean super food for dinner and good choice at breakfastjuice, cereal ham, cheese rolls, bacon sausage tomato, beans mushrooms, fried, scrambled and poached eggs smoked fish and poached eggs kippers and plenty of tea or coffee and toast. Rooms good and bathroom lovely shower and plenty of hot water. Tea and coffee making and biscuits, Had a leisure part but did not stay long enough to use this. Maybe next time! We were late arriving as boat from Ireland docked later than expected but we were still able to get dinner which was great and Restaurant Manager and girl Agnes on reception were both very helpful. Wish we could have stayed another nite!
