Arrived at this hotel with my mother and her friends, to see the Tattoo in edinburgh. We were greeted by a friendly staff member. The room was small but clean and the bathroom was lovely and clean. Bar staff were great fun on the saturday night after we got back from the Tattoo, and we all had a deserving drink in the bar. Breakfast was good, and there was plenty of staff if anything was needed.
Would definitely stay again but maybe take my husband next time.

I was delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your visit to the Edinburgh Tattoo.
As you know our hotel is situated less than a 2 hour drive from Edinburgh and we welcome an increasing number of guests who travel up to Edinburgh for the Tattoo in August.
We'd be delighted to welcome you back to the hotel with your husband next time and hope to see you back at the Cairndale in the very near future.

Just arrived home from a wonderful, enjoyable stay,on arrival we were met with a very nice approachable member of staff, who explained everything at check in,we were issued the keys for room 37,wow factor, four poster bed, massive room and even bigger bathroom, with bath tub large enough for two and also shower, with all complimentary toiletries, massive TV,complimentary beverages treat, bathrobes, iron & ironing board and hairdryer, complimentary bottled water, then headed to spa, pool adequate, steam room and sauna room were there although we didn't use but jacuzzi very good and relaxing, changing rooms clean, hairdryers, showers, facility to dry/rinse swim wear, downfall only one bar open during afternoon down at pool, due to wedding being held in main bar/function area, dinner albeit paid for bed, breakfast and evening dinner, was a set menu which don't appeal to myself and my husband,we then opted to purchase our dinner from the a a carte menu, which did cost slightly more, but that was our preference, tables service professional and polite,we then retired to main reception for drinks and watched the world go by,bar drink prices OK not over priced, breakfast very good, albeit set up on lids on hot plate very difficult to try and obtain food with no where really to put lid as they came right off and didn't slide open, check out quick and efficient, and a mention to one your members of staff,NICOLA is a credit to your hotel, polite, courteous and geninuenly interested in how our visit was,

We came across this lovely wee hotel whilst looking to visit Dumfries, when we arrived we were greeted and upgraded to a king-sized four poster bed as it was our first visit. Room was gorgeous with lovely cosy bed and tasty treats in the drawers. The Leisure Club has a lovely wee café,a very well organized gym and my favourite, the pool and jacuzzi. The heated pool was very relaxing as was the jacuzzi and after a wee while in the pool there was also a steam room and a sauna. The Dinner we had was lovely, although for older children not much choice but there is a nice kids menu also. Breakfast was amazing with all you can eat buffet and Classic English Breakfast you can help yourself to. The hotel is very convenient as it is literally a two minute walk to the train station and two minutes to the lovely shops in Dumfries. We had a fabulous time here and wish to come again.

myself and two aunts and my uncle visited Dumfries to meet up with family ,the greeting was not as expected from the reception staff , a disgruntled MR Wallace informed us at 1.40 our rooms were not ready due a large number of departures ,he did all this without raising his head from the paper work he was filling inn ,it was a really hot day we were told we could wait over there pointing to two sofa's .no offer of a coffee or cold drink . Hospitality welcoming not at all the reception itself was grim dull and the decor has seen better days bare coffee tables old and sofa's too low for elderly or disabled guests ,finally we were given our keys my room no4 had a window at least 10ft by 12ft there was no blinds or net curtains covering the glass , the room was stifling one had to close the curtains to keep out the sun which was magnified by the glass also directly opposite was the local gym there were men running on the tread mill looking right in my direction the room had no air con i requested a fan for all three rooms to be told none were available , i was misquoted the price for my room and after an embarrassing debate i was given a twenty pounds refund after being told by Mr Wallace "Im not going to argue with you " which he clearly did . then finally the breakfast although the choice was excellent it seems no matter what time you go to break fast the food would be over cooked and dried out as it is kept warm with gas burner directly under the food ! i am a local returning to Dumfries to visit family i know the Cairndale well as a child it was a Grand Hotel easily the best in Dumfries it is very sad to see this wonderful old building going down and so obviously being run by staff who are lacking in the service skills to at least show guests courtesy ,i am to trade a hotel inspector i feel someone needs to visit this hotel inspect every department a full retraining schedule is required by all staff !! i have read the reviews and have no idea what hotel the good ones are writing about but it is not the Cairndale !

My wife and I had a one night stay at the Cairndale. We found all the staff to be polite and helpful.
The Reivers restaraunt was well staffed and again the table staff were polite and friendly. The choice of food was excellent, as was the quailty of the food. The breakfast was also superb in choice and quality.
Bar prices for alcohol were also reasonable for such a quality Hotel.
Both my wife and I used the leasure facilities and we found them adequate and enjoyable.
The Hotel was clean through out as were the grounds outside.
Fantastic city centre Hotel for a short break in beautiful Dumfries.
We hope to return some time in the future.
A good clean well run Hotel. You could do alot worse than the Cairndale Hotel.

Room Tip: The Deluxe room we stayed in is well worth the money.

This was our second visit to the hotel, which physically is easily one of the most beautiful buildings in the town. An impressive size given it's wedged between two roads.
Basically we found the room too small compared to our first stay, my partner was unhappy not to have access to a bath. He asked for a possibility of getting a more spacious room with a bath for the second night of our stay but felt slightly offended at being told in a very abrupt and cold manner by a receptionist that the hotel was full (which we find surprising given that at the dining area and leisure facilities were pretty quiet for the start of the week).
We also found the level of cleanliness of the pool could have been a lot better - the appearance of the pool area is threatening to look tired and dated, the scumline of the pool was too evident and needs more cleaning.
Otherwise, we were very happy with most aspects - the jacuzzi was brilliant (allbeit the 6 minute interval is a bit annoying - 10mins would make a big difference) the sauna and steam room - very nice.
Albeit, we couldn't get a bigger room the shower we had was very powerful.
Generally, we found the staff very friendly and inviting. Especially the dining and breakfast staff and also the pool staff. The quality of the food is excellent and very well presented.

ps. To the new receptionist that started a couple of days ago, you are so warm and friendly - wishing you every success, you'll have that system doing as it's told in no time :)

Mr.Dorrian.

Thank you for taking the time to give us so much constructive feedback following your recent visit to the hotel.
I was sorry to hear that we were unable to offer you an alternative room on this occasion and under normal circumstances this shouldn't have been a problem but we have been particularly busy with the Commonwealth Games taking place in Glasgow this month.
On balance I believe there are many more positives than negatives highlighted in your review and I don't feel this is accurately reflected in your overall score.
As someone who has visited the hotel on more than once occasion you will also appreciate that some of our rooms are smaller than others and that some only have showers. It is also helpful to know in advance whether our guests have a preference for a bath so that we can allocate the best rooms available.
